The first man will be out of the water in ~49 minutes, the first woman in ~50 minutes!!

Two minutes till the start, they've sung the national anthem. I have screen capture software!

Nanci

Yeah, right!! Mass swim starts must be so hard!

Nanci

Brent Foster is in the lead, 46 min swim. Tim Deboom is 9th. For the women, Michellie Jones is in the lead. Disappointingly, they did not show the swim finish, or any of T1. Here is a shot of bikes leaving T1.

Here she is, the female leader!! They say she's towing a bunch of guys!!

04-09-2006, 09:43 AM
I actually saw her go by! Cool. I wish my video was still up so I could see more women as they go by--guess you'll have to take shots for us Nanci!

I cannot figure out how to get the video up. What do you click on to open it?

Nanci
04-09-2006, 09:47 AM
The whole Ironman Live site is crashed right now. If you didn't have video in placee before it went down- I don't know what to tell you. Just keep trying. A minute ago I had audio and no video, now I have frozen video and no audio...

Lise

That sucks. I never did get it to work. I'm going to take a nap and try later. Denise is out on the bike leg, and will be for a couple of hours more. Sending her all tailwinds.

Nanci
04-09-2006, 09:57 AM
Well, it looks like they are working on the video again. Thank God I remembered I had someone to call for updates. I am going to go buy some drip irrigation stuff and hopefully everything will be fixed when I get home!

But at least the Eagle Cam has been working!!

Can't get a picture here!

Thanks for posting the pics and updates ladies. Keep 'em coming!

Looks like Denise is doing great!

I can't believe how FAST the top people came out of the water! It takes me that long to swim 1.2 miles!

I still can't get the video, but here's the link to track Denise's splits:

Got to track Denise through the swim- by going to the old IM live site that I still had up, and clicking on 2006 coverage now available. No bike result yet. Her cousin called to say she had passed them at 2 hours and something- but I'm not sure if that was the halfway mark or not. If so- she's doing very well!!

(I was out planting my first magnolia tree, a DD Blanchard- to replace my poor baby tangelos and tangerine that didn't make it through the freezes. I should have known better, but I had high hopes!)

Michellie Jones is still in the lead. I want to say by 5 minutes. Men have made the first run loop- Smith, Lovato, Chabaud and Demeulemeester. Tim Deboom is now in 6th.

Here's a shot of Michellie coming into T2.

Anybody know if Denise is off the bike yet? They don't have her bike time posted yet on "Track an Athlete".

Nanci
04-09-2006, 02:43 PM
I just got a call, she is on her second loop, projected finish time of bike leg is ~5PM Arizona time. My source will call as soon as she's in T2. Cut off is 5:30. Now might be a good time for special prayers!!

Michellie continues to cruise along

She's now 10 miles away from her second Ironman title. She just went through 16.2 miles of the marathon.
07:56

Lovato opens up some space!

Spencer Smith's charge appears to have stalled. Lovato has managed to gain some time on Smith.

Here are the splits:
MICHAEL LOVATO (#2) leads the men's field.
* SPENCER SMITH (#7) at 1:25
* TIMOTHY DEBOOM (#6) at 6:00
* SERGIO MARQUES (#3) at 11:30

DeBoom is now all alone in third ... we'll have to see if he has enough time to make up the ground on the men ahead.
07:53

If Michellie Jones wasn't in this race ...

It would be quite close right now!

Through 10 miles, JONES (#58) leads, and behind her we have an incredible battle shaping up:

Behind her are:
* DESIREE FICKER (#56) at 20:31
* HEATHER GOLLNICK (#64) at 21:18
* HILLARY BISCAY (#77) at 23:25
* TEREZA MACEL (#79) at 27:36

Nanci
04-09-2006, 03:27 PM
What a close race!

MICHAEL LOVATO (#2) won in 8:20:56
Second was * SPENCER SMITH (#7) at 8:22:56
Third was * TIMOTHY DEBOOM (#6) at 8:27:39
Fourth was * SWEN SUNDBERG (#28) at 8:30:07
Fifth was * SERGIO MARQUES (#3) at 8:31:26

Good thing I wa making dinner and missed it...

Nanci
04-09-2006, 04:14 PM
Michellie's splits

Swim: 52:57
Bike: 4:59:49
Run: 3:15:30

Michellie spends the day alone!

"Almost every Ironman I've done I've done by myself," Michellie Jones said to the crowd here. "I'm getting used to that."

Michellie wins

Michellie Jones has done three Ironman races. She's won two of them, and finished second in the other.

Her time today: 9:12:53.

*****************

And I missed that, too- in the bathtub, she finished 20 minutes sooner than I expected! Let's hope that's a trend for everyone!

Lise

By what Nanci's written about the bike time, I can see that my estimations were off. I thought she'd be off the bike by 3PM CST. Any guesses? I am seriously impaired with respect to linear time. :rolleyes: L.

ladyfish

9.5 hours to finish bike based on Denise's post the other day. She estimated 2 hours for swim, 7.5- 7 3/4 on bike. So based on 10am EST start, that would be 7:30pm to finish the bike. So she should be on her run now.
(If I figured everything correctly).

Go to www.ironmanlive.com, click on the IRONMAN ARIZONA banner at the top middle, and the box that opens has "Athlete Finder" at the top on the left. Click on that, and enter Denise's number, 794.

I'm watching the live feed of the finish line (of course I wanted it to be the live feed of the transition area so I could see Denise! :) ) I just saw one guy cross strong, then fall down. Looked like he was crying as they helped him up. I'd been watching these incredibly muscular, lean women and men cross the line smiling, and I wondered why none of them had fallen down and started crying, as I have done sometimes upon finishing a race. I feel a real kinship with that one guy. I have a feeling that, as time goes on, we'll have more finishers that look like me.

I love how the announcer is saying, "Come on home, (so and so), You Are An Ironman!"

This is so cool. Thanks, Denise, for inviting us all into this amazing event. Our hearts are out with you on that run course.

I don't know that I'll make it either - will have to check in the AM. Of course, Hubby has been wondering why I've been running back and forth to the computer all day - especially near the end of the bike leg. Since he's a nightowl, maybe I can con him into checking and waking me up;)

Thanks to all who have been posting updates - they're much appreciated.

Go Denise, GO!!!!!

We (Denise's husband, son, cousin, nephew and my kids and I) watched Denise ride around the final parts of the bike course and then we went over to where they drop off bikes and transition to the run. Okay, so she must have been VERY fast getting through there because she was gone before we got there but we didn't know that.... as the clock is ticking and we are all so worried she's gonna miss the cutoff... UGH! As several people got stopped, Terrie (her cousin) calls me and says that Nanci (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU) just called to confirm that her bike time already posted... you just can't imagine the happiness we all felt!!!:D :D :D Anyway, we did have one of the volunteers double check that her bike was indeed racked...WHEW!!!

Great Event! Her family is still there but I'm back at the hotel waiting for the call that she's at mile 16 on her run so I can go back an cheer for her at the finish!!!

WOW, what a fabulous time this is!!!

I am not sure why there is a place there for her. Maybe that is where is in placing after what she has finished?

Looking at her run pace, she might be walking the marathon? I hope she finishes in 16 hours as she planned.

Here was her projected run time:

Run. Here is the big ???. In training I managed a perfect run/walk combo that came out to 11:30-12:00 minute miles. I should be able to keep that up for at least the first half. My first half should be about 2 hours 40 minutes. Then add on a good few ticks on the last half as I KNOW I'll slow down. This is based on my marathon history. So first 13.1 should be 2:40, last 13.1 around 3 hours.

Here's the result page...

http://liveupdate.ironmanlive.com/frameset.php3?url=http://vnews.ironmanlive.com/assets/results/06.AZ.htm

She's listed in place 1849 with "ath" beside her name (and I'm pretty sure it isn't athlete - though she certainly qualifies as that and more:)). Any clue what that means?? I think this page updates a little more regularly than the athlete profile page...

It looks like they are estimating finish numbers based on their total time after the 1st lap of the run. I did a search on Women 35-39 and the woman behind Denise is listed as finishing one number after Denise's posted number.

Geonz
04-09-2006, 08:12 PM
My guess is "Athena" - since the other additions are CLY whihc would be for "Clydesdale." If you're over a certain size you get to compete with the other big shots. Maybe they're grouped separately for splits, too.

ladyfish
04-09-2006, 08:13 PM
It also seemed to take forever for them to post her time. I think she should have finished that first lap before 10:30pm EST, but it didn't post until much later. Don't think I'll be able to hang in for the finish.

2nd split time for the run is in:

8.73 mi. (2:09:44) 14:51/mile

It's a bit faster than the first one.

I went for a short run tonight and was running with her for a while, hope that helped.

That's a total of about 14h40m so far. I hope she makes it to the end.

What an incredible challenge.

Michael Lovato hangs some medals
How's that for an exciting way to finish the race ... having the champion put your finisher's medal over your head?
Michael Lovato has joined the party at the finish line here for the last hour of the race. 16:06
