I can;t remember where I read it today, but someone was going off onthe cadbury egg's and how good they are. Well I was at the store and walked past the holiday candy section and saw them. They were on sale for $1.88 so i thought ok lets see what all the fuss is. I thought "Really, can these be that special?"
Got in the car and broke them open. I decided to just let it melt in my mouth so i could get a real sence of the texture and tast. The shell was nice, not to much, not over powering. Next came the chocolate. OMG! what a great flavor. Somehow different. Not waxy like some of those chocolates can be. it was a nice surprise! I wish I hadn't bought them now. Cause I am going to want more and will have to stock up now.

Yep Cadbury chocolate is yummy. Sorry to say but most of the chocolate you can get here in the USA at the supermarket sucks big time. I get my family to send me chocolate from home. My mum just arrived from Aust a few days ago and has replenished our supply thank goodness.:)

I can't have those in the house - I eat the whole *$&# package of them.
Though I do have a new addition: maple flavored marshmellow fluff dipped in dark chocolate - I don't think they're *quite* as bad as the cadbury eggs and they are YUMMY:D :D :D :D
Yep - I ride to eat:D :D
Hey Trek - Just saw your reply...
I live within biking distance of a Southern Season (www.southernseason.com) which carries all manner of imported choclates. I'm set!! This is also the place that has the maple cream eggs :D :D

We have an english store in the next town over if you need anything let me know they have a bunch of stuff. No tim tams though.

I have a bag of those cadbury minieggs in my pantry. Hubby and I sneak one (or two) when the kids aren't looking :p I look forward to them every year! They are just about the only decent chocolate you can get at the grocery store these days.
Yummmmmm. Now I need to go get one. Thanks Brandi!

I love, love, love Cadbury eggs. I wait for them every year. I actually took a handful to work and made everyone try them so they would know I wasn't insane..... (I got all excited when I remembered it was Easter candy time)! I had to go find my stash after first reading this post too! :D

A few years ago, the dollar store had these Cadbury eggs with peanut butter. Sooooo good! I wish I could find those again. The combo of good chocolate with pb was devine!
I find that health food stores often have some better chocolate than grocery stores for the rest of the year.

True enough. Dove, yes - and quite yummy. Lindt and Guittard are not readily available here in the MS Delta. I have found Lindt on occasion and I used to be able to buy Ghiradelli, but never Guittard. I love those Lindt truffles - ooh those are good. I can still find Ghiradelli for baking, most of the time (which is a MAJOR hobby of mine). I really need to move.

I would come home positively laden with Belgian chocolate.

Hey gals,
The supermarkets in Australia are full of Easter Eggs at the moment. And a lot of them are Cadburys!:)
I like Lindt (we have a Lindt cafe in Sydney), and Dove and Cadburys. But I have to say my favorite choccies in the world are Mrs Sees. I get them when my aunty in the US comes to visit. They are sooooo scrumptious. Not the worlds most exciting packaging, but the choccies are yummmmy.:D

Cadburys Creme eggs are an institution in the UK. I grew up eating them at easter as did everyone I know (we are all convinced they have gotten smaller since we were kids although Cadburys denies this!). I have been eating them as my chocolate treat at the minute as they are "only" 174 calories. They are so sweet that it satisfies my craving.
We used to challenge each other as kids to eat as many of them as you could as fast as you could, I think I managed three once, felt sick for hours!
As far as good chocolate goes my favourite is Green and Blacks Maya Gold (or anything by Green and Black), dark chocolate with orange and spice through it - organic and fairtrade as well. Our works canteen has just started selling small bars of it which I struggle to resist!

Haha, I think the same thing every time I go to the store here almost lol! It seems like every other shopping trip I can't find some item I always took for granted everywhere else I've lived (this week it was the alfredo sauce in the cream coloured packets, I stocked up when they went on sale before I moved and finally ran out :( ) The worst of it is that not only is the selection limited, the food is spendy out here! Thank goodness for the canned foods store (Grocery Outlet), since they always have cheap lovely cheeses. They even had Ben and Jerry's for 75 cents a few months ago....oh that was heaven!

roughingit - yup - we had a store that sold ghiradelli double chocolate chips which beat the pants off of hersheys. When they were going out of business, I bought something like a dozen bags (everything they had). It was a sad day when I ran out of them. The other store sells their bar baking chocolate which I use for making candies, but not the double chocolate. :( At least food is fairly cheap here. I guess the grass is always greener... You have better scenery, though ;)

With all the stuff in the news about eating a certain precentage chocolate content, they changed the name to 60% cocoa chocolate chips. Do they have those? if not:

I had noticed that they changed the name (I was wondering why) and the store occasionally gets it in bar form. I loved it in chip form because the chips were bigger than normal. We make a lot of choc chip cookies in my house - my kids love the. The double choc chips would stay melty for days! Oh yum.
Geez - politically correct chocolate.

Sarris Candy, located in Pittsburgh, makes the best chocolate. I'm a Pittsburgh native, so admittedly, I'm biased. Their chocolate-covered pretzels are the best and my favorite Christmas treat is their coconut clusters. For Easter, they have some wonderful "meltaway" eggs. Danger Will Robinson--they have a website and you can buy online!!! haha.

It is different, or at least it was when I was in the States for a few months (1996). One of the women on the summer camp I was working at brought in several bars of Dairy Milk and it definitely tasted different although I'm not sure why. It may be that the fat content was lower as Cadburys stuff has a fairly high fat content (in fact I think it technically isn't "chocolate" really). Also KitKats tasted very different and Milky Ways and Mars bars. It wasn't until I got to Montreal that we managed to get stuff that we were used to.

You know, I'm dissapointed in UK Creme Eggs. They're just not as good as the Kiwi ones. I haven't conducted exhaustive research on the matter, but something's just not right with the filling. As for G&B, where's the drooling smilie? Their choc icecream spoils you for anything else. I'm rather partial to the vanilla caramel nut one too. Well, to all of them really. :D

I have been on a total creme egg kick lately. At least an egg a day. And eating 3 in one go has never been a problem. My limit may be around 5. But then again, I am a coplete chocolate addict. After moving to England, I have also been introduced to Galaxy Caramel bars, Thornton's truffles and Galaxy Ripples. My girlfriend in Ireland sent me a bunch of Kit Kats that had orange flavoring in the chocolate. Orange Chunky Kit Kats. Dang! You folks in Europe get all the best chocolate!
Although, we do have a Belgian chocolate store right by my church that sells Leonidas chocolate. It's flowin in every week and you have to eat it pretty quickly because it's make with fresh cream and all that... it's a real hardship to have to eat a whole box before it spoils. ;) Their pralines are the BEST!! :)

Since Cadbury in the US is made by Hersheys, is it different?
Cadbury's chocolate recipe does differ from country to country - the chocolate here in NZ is definitely different to back home in the UK. Not
quite as creamy.
I was at a dinner party a few weeks ago and one of the women there worked for Cadbury's (didn't get any free samples though, sadly!). I actually asked her if the recipes differed and she confirmed that they do - US, UK and Australasia chocolate each have a slightly different taste, to suit the different palates.
I remember quite a few years ago that there was a move by the European Union to make the UK rename their chocolate because it contained too much milk fats or not enough cocoa solids, or some such - they argued it was too sweet and creamy and not really chocolate at all.
I'm afraid that even if you pinned me down and tried to force feed Hershey's down me, I still couldn't eat it - it tastes so different to the chocolate I'm used to (and I'll save you the description of what it actually does taste like!)
Creme eggs are so sweet they give me toothache - as do Mars Bars!
The tastiest chocolate though is Galaxy. Galaxy caramel eggs leave Cadbury's creme eggs standing by the wayside.
I SO miss Galaxy ripples. Much creamier and yummier than Cadbury's flake.
OMG - I want chocolate and I want it NOW!!
Lindt makes this incredible combination: Dark chocolate, orange, and some kind of nut. I picked it up one day at an unlikely spot, and darned if I can remember where! Oh, wait, maybe it was that Osco over on Damen...all this talk has made me want to taste that again! It may be the perfect combo, although I really like that chocolate + chile taste!

The reason why cadbury chocolate is a different texture is because they vary the ingredients slightly so they don't melt as easily in the Aussie climate.
I am not a huge fan of the cadbury creme eggs. I love the chocolate with crunchie (honeycombe) in it. At easter they make these mini crunchie eggs and you suck the chocolate away until you have all these little bits of honeycomb left in your mouth - yummo!
One of my friends from the UK brought some galaxy chocolate when she was visiting and that is really nice. I really like a variety which they called pestels I think and they were just like these giant mm's.

Mellic, Do you mean "Minstrels", big chocolate discs with a hard shell ("Melt in your mouth not in your hand").
I'm not a fan of Galaxy chocolate (was brought up to think cadburys was best - not really keen that now either) but I love Minstrels, our vending machine at work doesn't have them (just checked) so I can resist. It does have Flakes though but Flakes are best in ice-cream in a cone or 99s as they are called here. No idea why they are called 99s but they were the height of sophistication from the Ice Cream Van when I was a kid.

Its basically just stuck in the ice cream, its generally not a full size flake, though I have used them before, you can get the gist from this link:
http://www.cadbury.co.uk/EN/CTB2003/about_chocolate/brand_stories/ice_cream.htm.
The Flake 99 is on the left. Putting it in the ice cream made it less likely to melt (obviously) and also more brittle so it flaked easier, brilliant for getting chocolate all over your clothes. I used to use the flake as a spoon and prolong it for as long as possible.
The blurb below also tells why it is called a 99, you learn something every day! :D
I think McDonalds may have done a Flake McFlurry with the Flake broken into the Ice Cream, I know they have definitely done a Creme Egg McFlurry and a mini-egg McFlurry. McFlurry ice cream is not my favourite though.

They come from a Southern Season in Chapel Hill, NC. They do mail order off their website (www.southernseason.com), but I don't think they have everything on their website that they have in store. These are in a glass jar on their candy counter (which is a very dangerous place to visit...). You could call and ask if they would mail order these - their service is usually very good (I've send gifts, etc).
