Yep, this Saturday will be my first Tri for this year.

I have trained for it with my 10-week triathlon training program... and many of us from our group will be competing. It will be so much fun to race with people I know!

It is called the Iceman, in Southlake Tx... 300 yard swim (in a 50 yard pool and it will be great because we won't have oncoming traffic in the same lane!), 13 mile bike (with some hills, but I am ready! HA!), and a 5K run (around a pond with grass for me to run on).

I suspect my times will be:

6 minutes for the 300 yard swim (I can do a 5:15 in perfect conditions, so I added some time).

2 minutes for T1

40 minutes for the 13 mile bike (I suspect I will do around 18 mph average).

2 minutes for T2

36 minutes for the 5k (I do around a 12 minute mile!)

TOTAL: 1 hour 26 minutes... so... maybe 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I will post next week on how it went and hopefully will have some pictures to share.

Have a great time today, KSH! It's 8:45 AM in Chicago, so you may be in the water already in TX. Looking forward to hearing how it went. Lise

Wow—18 mph on the bike! To speed up on the bike is one of my big goals—I average about 15 mph. I bought some SPINeRVALS DVDs to see if they will help me along.

While I was running the other day I was musing on how much more “comfortable” (HA!) it is to reach my target HR zone while running than while cycling. (Does that make any sense? ) Like it feels I have to put more effort into it, the legs burn more. Improve technique and pain threshold—I will get there. ;)

I am not a speedy swimmer either, but I am going to focus on an efficient and relaxed stroke (and not drowning in the lake) for my first few races this summer.

Gettin' jiggy with it.
