I just set up a little spreadsheet (;) for AG) comparing this methodology to the one used by Arnie Baker in Bicycling Medicine. Of course, it is anecdotal based on a statistic of one (me) but it seems more accurate and useful. It gives a min and max calories per hour needed during a ride based on how quickly your stomach can absorb nutrients.

Just thought I'd share my little experiment. Sorry it isn't as interesting as Nanci's coffee beans in the teeth research project.

Don't they think anyone might be riding less than 15mph? :-)

Choc covered espresso beans are just ruined for me. I only eat them in the privacy of my own home, now...

Shouldn't they also be factoring in your weight.....

I'd be happy to email my excel spreadsheet to anyone who wants it. Saves you the time of setting up all the formulas.

Nanci, I estimated the coefficients down to 11 MPH. Seemed pretty simply and close enough for guvmint work.

Yes please. I started to do it, and thought why try to re-invent the wheel? Besides it was after midnight and I really needed to go to bed than play with bike stuff.

I'd love to have it.
Thanks
Martha

Just sent. We are having so much fun packing in the middle of one of those giant yellow radar blobs.

Ran out of dry bags, V, sorry.

Just kidding. :p

Well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't give you my clothes for the trip. :D Hope you have a good, safe drive. The weather in Utah is looking better.

V.

PS According to that website I will need to consume at least 4100 calories while riding DMD. That's a lot of Klondikes!

Anyone who wants this needs to PM their email address.

BTW, I'll be out most of this week. Didn't seem worth taking the compooter when I won't have any non-meeting time.
