As I posted last week I'm signed up to participate in the local Tour de Cure to be held next month. One of the individuals involved in organizing this event recently posted a note to the local bicycling list which has me somewhat puzzled. There are at this point 21 individuals signed up to participate (this is the first time this event has been held here) and in an attempt to encourage more members of the local bike club to participate the ADA person indicated that anyone who registers ($20) this week will automatically be given a jersey. My question is simply this what about those who have already signed up and those who will sign on later - no jersey for these people unless they turn in $400 in donations. Would this ruffle your feathers, should this be questioned? I've never participated in a fund raising event and so I don't know if this is the norm.

Did you ask the ADA rep about the compensation for the people already signed up?

It's interesting you bring this up coz I have issues with this in just about every area: I can't get the introductory price for digital cable because I'm already a cable customer even though I'm not a digital cable customer, I can't get the special price for the cable modem coz I'm already a customer, I can't get the free checks for life at my bank coz that's only for new customer, and so on and so forth. I appreciate they want the new business - but why not take the steps to keep the business - or reward the people - you've already got.

Ask him - the worse that happens is he/she says "it only applys to the new people"!

This would *really* annoy me assuming they don't offer it to those already registered. Plus, it the registration fee is $20 and they're offering a free jersey, seems they would be negative on fundraising for all of the new riders. A consideration given that this is supposed to be a fundraising event.

I had a cell phone company do this to me what I was *out from under contract* - we're sorry, but since you already have service with us, you'll have to pay more for a new phone even though you paid more so you would have a one year contract and not be under contract very long. We're sorry we screwed up and didn't put the insurance on it that you requested, but tough. GRRRRRR. I changed companies the next day.
