I just looked out my window at the sky and there's something blue out there. Help! What is it? Is the world coming to an end?

Well, it is SNOWING over here

I immediately turned on my little radio on my desk and it is suppose to stop by 2:00. I am sure it won't amount to anything, but please, it is SPRING!

Nothin' blue out my window either :(.

25+ days of rain in March, and now rain every day so far in April, with rain predicted next week too. Where do I file a complaint?

Ok I have just the opposite problem here is GA with beautiful blue skys for the past few days. My problem is my roomate and ride partner hurt his knee and can't ride for awhile and I feel bad ditching him and riding by myself!

Wahhaahhhahhhhaaaa. Its snowing here! There are 2 inches on the ground already. The stupid sanding trucks are out resanding the newly cleaned roads and my daffodils are sadly looking at the ground covered in snow.

Yee Gads - we have blue here! I went and walked up the ski hill for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed myself. In retaliation, it's supposed to rain tomorrow but my new Terry bike is being delivered - yipee!

Yup, we're supposed to get 2-5 inches. And it's not even April Fools Day. Speaking of clean roads, I almost got run over by one of those street sweeping trucks on Monday. Guess the bike and I would have been well brushed. Actually, the brush wasn't turning, so maybe we would have just bounced off.

Say what? I think it just popped out here for a minute. Boy I take a lot of grief for things I am "surly" not responsible for. :D

I loved the Grammy Grinch thing. That is what my kids call my mother who earned the nickname because as and ER nurse she always had to work Christmas Eve and my little brother called her the Grinch one year and it stuck so when I saw you using that SadieKate I had to laugh.

Don't tell anyone but I hope the weather improves for your ride coming up. My brother lives in California so I kind of have to be nice to you girls out there. :D

Well, in Salt Lake City, Utah, yesterday and today started out with some sun, partly cloudy, ....then all heck and halloween fell out of the sky --- hideous wind gusts, rocking our little tiny RV, and blowing the birds outta the trees, pelting silvermetal rain, and frowning black skies!

Then......the SUN came out!!! :D Now it's partly cloudy again.....this is the wildest wierdest place I've ever seen (besides Wisconsin where the weather could change from sun to tornado in a flat beer minute!)

My only excuse not to ride is I hurt my right knee (the only good one left) and my son just came home from a two year church mission in Brazil, trailing yellowed-white shirts and only three pair of raggedy socks....so we've been shopping and running like mad!)

But!!! MY SNOW PEAS ARE UP out of the ground!!:D The tree in our yard is flowering, and it MUST be SPRING!!!!:D

Hey--there's some of that blue stuff in Dianyla's avatar. Let's ask her what it could be!
Chicago: Not sunny. Not snowing. Not raining. Just...the usual...grey, chilly, a bit windy when you least expect it. It could be all of the above at the same time, so I'm not griping (today) .

I'm sure it's at least as valid as the Twinkie defense. But I don't do criminal defense, so I am not an expert... :D

Had brief bout of blue so opened HUGE Subaru sunroof while running errands. Came out of Jamba just in time to close the sucker up before it started sprinkling again.

I'm going to need it.

Just got a call from Bill. His older sister had an emergency appendectomy this morning. Doing fine. Expected to come home Saturday. It hadn't erupted but was close.

Mom just called to tell me my father is going through a phalanx of med tests starting today because I got pissy with him last night when on the phone he said his ankles had been swollen for a few days and it hurt to walk. Mom looked at them last night and said they were tender to the touch so she called and got him a doc's appt this morning. Full neurological test today. Cardio, MRI or CAT-scan, and god knows what else over next couple of days. Last night's phone call was the first time I've ever heard him truly confused, even when my mother wasn't interrupting him (as is her way). 78 yrs old, sedentary in the extreme, obese, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor, bi-polar or depressed or god knows what (always been somewhat in his own world). Parkinson's, stroke, circulatory, who knows.

Raining out the near living room window but I can see blue sky to the north out the other window. I'm going over the edge. I thought it was going to stay dry enough I could ride tonight, even a few miles

Bill's out of town until Friday. I bought healthy stuff for dinner. Maybe ice cream would be better.

OMG!! That's terrible! At least your SIL sounds okay - but I am sorry about your dad. That's so rough, and it sounds like it has been an ongoing degenrative thing. I'm so sorry.

My recommendation is Chunky Monkey. It has fruit in it.

It's always hard when parents start to have health problems, so I really sympathize with you kiddo. :( Prayers for your folks from my end of the world.

I second the ice cream. It always made me feel better demolishing a half gallon of extremely chocolately fudge supreme something or other... haven't had any in a monkey's age...or was that a coon's age? Wonder what a chocolate coon tastes like? The only thing blue here is my new bike!:D

Thanks, everyone. My mother is somewhat of a hypochondriac and Dad is the opposite. Since he's the one that's off in his own little world (Earth to Dad was frequently heard in our house) and was taught not to "rock the boat" he frequently waits to say anything or pooh-poohs symptoms.

As of Tuesday morning we won't be near a phone for 5 days. The real boondocks. Back of beyond. Not that I can do anything useful but fret.

V, I bought your favorite quiche for dinner and some sugar snap peas to go with it. Normally when Bill's out of town my diet goes to heck in a handbasket. I was trying so hard to be good. Nutty-Buddies with a caramel center. Maybe the puppy and I need an outing.

What kind of fruit in Chunky Monkey?

It must be contagious for it was very blue here today as well - gotta love those high pressure systems. It was a bit chilly at the start of the 50 mile club ride this morning but warmed up nicely after the lunch stop. It was a beautiful day, a great day to be on vacation and on my bike.

Yeah, chunks of chocolate and, I think walnuts. With banana ice cream. Stop me before I do damage. I should just have a glass of wine now so I am not tempted to get in the car and get some..... The broccoli is in the steamer. Whole Foods turkey meatloaf in the over with red sauce all over it.... I really don't need chunky monkey.

Wow - V was right, these threads all do degenerate into food, don't they?

What did this start out as? Oh, yeah. Strange blue stuff up above.

SK-- sorry to hear about your dad. I sympathize. My Mom gets embarrassed about symptoms, so she omits information, makes up other information, etc. Hard to know when to get pissy and insistant, and when to "leave her be". Glad to hear your dad's docs are taking him seriously. Best wishes.

Dianyla-- you cracked me up about "the precioussssss". There's a nurse at work who calls everyone "precious". I can't help but see Gollum in his cave every time she says it. I don't think that's quite what she intends! :p

And, finally, since everything comes back to food, allow me to comment on how extraordinarily unsatisfying fat-free frozen yogurt is, even if it is chocolate. Blech. I need me some real ice cream! Ever tried Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby? Chocolate with pretzels and caramel and I don't even remember what else since it's been that long since I've let myself eat any. L.

Mine not only wants to share the ice cream, but he has to lick the bowl when I'm done! We call it the 'pre-wash' cycle! :D

Oh, we here in Idaho haven't seen that blue stuff in quite awhile. Had a tornado east of us yesterday, though. That just doesn't happen too often in these parts! Today the wind is really howling. Isn't spring just peachy?!

My goodness, so much can happen in a couple of days whilst one's internet is down! :p

SK, sounds like you need the ride next week. The good news is the forecast is getting BETTER. It now looks like Friday is the only day where we might be wet all day. From what I understand (from Mr. Abbey's chapter on the Maze), the terrain out there turns to goo when it rains. We're gonna have some dirty bikes. :D I think I'll bring an extra package of baby wipes.

FYI, I just looked out the window and it's SNOWING again here in Salt Lake. I was expecting rain, not snow. As Melinda pointed out, the weather here is quite moody. I think we saw it all yesterday.

And waaaah! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I MISS ICE CREAM! Lise, not only is yogurt substandard... sorbet, soy, whatever...NOT the same as Chunky Monkey.

Guess I'd better go get my butt on the trainer.

Edit: proof that it would be a little messy today:

You, Veronica and I are all getting a severe case of the whines. Bubba is adding his basso profundo from Monterey.

Yeah, that red rock country definitely turns to goo. If it starts to rain very hard, the support truck will get mired. If we're on a road, they'll pull up along side and give you 2 options: get in the truck NOW or guarantee that you'll make it to camp under your own power.

Thanks, everyone, for your support. The Wonder Poodle did a good job last night of loudly snoring in a comforting sort of way. Funny how you get so used to certain sounds that if they are missing can disrupt your sleep. Just in a wait and see mode now.

Update from phone calls:

SIL is resting comfortably and on good drugs. Expects to be home Saturday.

Dad has an echo cardiogram s'afternoon. Mom is trying to get a chest x-ray, blood panel and doppler scheduled ASAP. I'm hoping we start to get some news going out of phone range on Tuesday. Since the doc didn't admit him I'm just going with the positive thought that this is chronic not acute.

I haven't bought fancy-schmancy ice cream in forever. Is there one to recommend that has chocolate and caramel? Might have to get 2 flavors in case Chunky Monkey just doesn't work tonight. Yeah, I know, hard to imagine but I like to be prepared.:o ;)

Well, you should get some information on your dad soon, I would think. With what you had described earlier, chronic sounded right. Hope it is not serious.

As a backup I would suggest New York Super Fudge Chunk or Phish Food. But I am one of those who likes "stuff" in my ice cream. DH does not - he likes plain coffee or vanilla with no "stuff". I like the "stuff" best of all. We try not to buy ice cream at all though!

SadieKate- Hope everything is okay with your dad, but it doesn't sound very promising with your description of his health and age. This must be especially hard for you given your commitments in life to exercise and good health.

Please keep us up to date on his status. I would think you will hear something before you leave next week.

Hopefully you will have some sun out there in "red rock" country!

SK: glad to hear your SILs doing better, keeping your father in my prayers. When my dad was here recently for his annual visit he looked so fragile. I cherish every moment I spend with him!

As for the blue stuff? It's called the "sky" and we have it Plenty here in New Mexico - along with awesome temps in the 70s. Can I send some to anyone??
Although - darn - today seems to be partly cloudy so I have this fluffy white stuff messing up my pretty blue sky! :D

On a serious note: my prayers go out to anyone and everyone that has been affected by the crazy weather: tornadoes in the Midwest, floods in CA, snow everywhere else. Here's hoping all my far-flung friends (try saying That 3x real fast) are safe and well.

and sprinkling this morning but is clearing up nicely now. We've actually been having "severe clear" for a few days now. We are 12 inches or so behind in rainfall and really would like to see more, so send it our way.

I've been "riding" my bike on the trainer with the garage door open to get the knee well enough a month after the scope to start some real riding. I see the orthopedist next week so maybe he'll release me. There is still a little swelling but that is mostly gone. The locking up is gone. Amazing what they can do with the scopes these days.

SadiKatie, I hope things go well for your dad. It takes time to do all the testing and pool all the data together. I'll keep him in my prayers, and your mom and you too.

Donna

PS. Actually Blue Bell and Braums here in TX make some of the best sugar free ice cream and frozen yogurt I've ever had. Braums has a chocolate chunk cappoccino that is out of this world and it's sugar free!!:D OK, now I'm going to have to go get some.

I could have an organism over Blue Bell's Caramel Pecan Fudge full blown, full fledged, creamy ice cream! They don't make it any more but years ago, they did and I probably ate my weight in the stuff. Any flavor of Blue Bell is wonderful and they will ship 4 1/2 gals anywhere in the USA for 89$. :)

SadieKate, sorry to read about your dad but keep hope. My dad had those problems for years off and on. Doctors can do an awful lot these days.

Speaking of blue, we've had blue skies off and on this week. The yellow ball was so bright the shades came out and tripped over a 1/2 gal of Blue Bell Pecan's N Pralines. OK, there was no ice cream. Darn!

I just remembered that there's a Leatherbys down the street here in Salt Lake and they have the most DECADENT dessert:

Hot brownie with ice cream of your choice with hot fudge thick and gooey all over it and nuts, and whipped cream and a big whopping cherry!!:D

It's guaranteed to put you into an instant coma of chocolate maddness and a drooling fit of euphoria!!!

Today I needed it. My doctor told me the lump I found in my right breast has to come out..... and my orthopedic surgeon stuck two huge needles of cortisone into the top of my left foot (bad arthritis) and into my right kneecap (sprained the thing just turning over in bed....:( .) and I need CHOCOLATE!!!!!

It snowed tons here today, wet, sloppy, cold, heavy awful SNOW/sleet. The local weatherman calls this "Sprinter = Spring + Winter...and promises temps in the 60's this weekend...

Meantime, I'm confined to the sofa becoming a much wider couch potato until the leg heals and taking GOOD drugs and whining a lot....:D

And SadieKate and Yellow are going biking in warm Southern Utah.....WAAAaaaaaaaaa!!

Right, Sadiekate, but today, Friday, the sun is out, it's BEE-UTIFUL and I am doing nothing but sitting around (and when I say sitting "around", I MEAN SITTING ALL AROUND the RV...)..but the leg and foot feel great and I haven't taken any good drugs since the one last night.....Wheeee!

I am thinking that while DH and DS are gone, I might venture forth and ride my bike, if I don't get caught! Am I crazy or what?

I am not worrying about the breast lump, just taking things as they come. Heck, I have so little in tha area, that if they removed it all, you would not notice a bit!! I think it will be a benign thing, but then if it's not, I have lived a long life, traveled the world, done crazy things and don't want to grow old and be hurting like I have been, so that's okay too!

Wow!! My chinese snow peas are up in the window planter box on the picnic table (if you don't have a garden, buy a planter and grow your veggies there!)...I am so barmey to plant my tomatoes and peppers in the peat pots indoors....:D

GARDENING....gardening...anybody like to garden?
