Ok so this website says the water tempe in TTL is nearly 10 degrees WARMER than the other... hmmm
http://www.tempe.gov/wx/weather1.aspx
Good thing too because the long sleeve suit I ordered is on back order! YIKES!
Taper is going well. Having funny little aches but trying to ignore them. Taper week workout so far:
Sunday: Off after 100/5 brick from day before
Monday: Off again, spencer turned 9, still tired
Tues: one hour ride /3 mi run brick, good strong effort
Wed: the best 1 hour swim I've had in awhile. Felt great!
Thurs: 6 mile run in 1:04; 1 hour spin in evening
Sounds good. Interesting about the taper pains phenomenon.
You may have to go down to the lake and stick a foot in yourself to decide about which wetsuit to wear.
BTW, go to www.slowfattriathlete.com and read Jayne's race report from her first marathon on Sunday! :D L.

RM - those aches and pains are so normal! I had a big week last week (not compared to the weeks you've been putting in tho....), getting ready for my marathon in April (ran 20 miles) then followed it up by 3 hours on my bike on Sunday. This week I basically took the entire week off because of being up here in Aspen and since we've just been skiing. Taking some time off makes me notice every little twitch going on my body! My calves are tight, I am thinking I'm getting PF (UGH!) and every muscle in my upper body is achy. That could be because I had a death grip on my ski poles, but you know... LOL!
Hang in there, only a couple of weeks to go!
Regarding the swim... I bet you'll be ok with the sleeveless, but you're doing the swim before, right? So maybe you can decide then?

Update from someone on another forum that did the TTL OW swim today...
Tempe town lake 2.4 mile swim.
We were told at the swim that the water temp was 59 deg., and initially it was SOOO COLD but once we got going temperature was not an issue the rest of the swim. I have a full wetsuit and was fine. ( we did start at 11:00 am instead of the 7:00 am IM start). We were also told the depth of the lake is 16 feet at its deepest at the far west end to 6 feet deep at the far east end. We did not swim the Iron man course, as we started just west of Rural rd bridge and swam a counter-clockwise loop. The water quality was fine to me, I'm certainly not experienced in this, but I wasn't grossed out by the water in any way. My time was 1:43:11(my watch ) which was faster than I was estimating and make me think the had the course for today's swim measured short. I will be interested in Trimom's and Rick's thoughts, as well as anyone else who swam today.
The clarity was not good, not good at all. One other thing we were told is that the city has been adding "granules" to the lake to help break up the clumps of algae. I didn't see any clumps of algae, and I imagine if the granules work and dissole the algae then this really brings the visibility and clarity down. Just a little wind today, but I think the air temps this afternoon got to the mid to high 80's.
So yeah, I think I'm gonna need the full deal. Trisports has the suit I want on backorder so I ordered it here on TE. Hopefully they have it in stock. (fingers and toes crossed)... I was thinking I should have ordered it here ANYWAY! But I get a 15% discount from trisports so.... UGH!

RM - have you swum in TTL yet at all? There was no algae for SOMA either, although I heard that there had been some in the summer, there was none for the 1/2. The water didn't taste so bad either (I end up drinking a lot of it).
Remember to pee in your wetsuit when you get in the water and you'll be real warm.... ;)
Also - make sure to swim in your new wetsuit before the big day!!!

I've never been in TTL, but I plan to do the OW swims Thurs and Fri morning on race week. You know if you have a hankering to jump in TTL you can come swim too. I don't believe you have to be registered. I know a guy who's from nor cal that's coming down just to swim. He's going to be here on business so he's taking advantage of the OW opportunity.
My plan is to try the sleeveless wetsuit thurs am and if that doesn't work to break out the big daddy sleeved suit on Fri. May even jump in saturday morning just to get an even better feeling for the water.
I used to surf so OW doesn't freak me out. It's just the cold. I hate cold!
