We're heading out at about noon today to drive to my first double. There is a 30% chance of showers in Solvang tomorrow. And they are predicting 20 mph winds from NW. That will be great for the sections that are heading south, not so great when heading north.
Wish me luck! :)

Hey V- We'll be riding Cindy with you in spirit! Much good luck. At least the nasty winds are at the beginning of the ride rather than coming back.
Much luck and love!;) ;) ;) ;)

My first double was the TOSRV-WEST in Montana. The year we did it, it was held the weekend before Memorial Day. I don't know if you're familar with Montana weather in the spring. It can be hot, windy, raining, and even snowing! Well, we had everything but the hot! Our first day we started off in below freezing weather. At one rest stop we saw one poor guy placing garbage bags over his feet to serve as "booties" to block the cold wind. He said he could not feel his toes! Lucky for us we went prepared (my husband was born and raised in Montana so he knew!) The last 12 miles we got freezing rain and nasty headwinds. Our motel room saved us! It had a hot jacuzzi outside. We sat in it for quite sometime, watching the steam rise as it hit the cold air. On the second day the sun was out but it was still freezing cold. When we climbed up into the mountain pass we encountered snow. And the last five miles at the end of day two, we were hit with headwinds and ice pellets! BUT the ride was a blast! Joe and I had such a good time. We trained, we came prepared, and it was something so different! The support was awesome! Those Montanans really know how to feed you! Hot home made soups and sandwiches, cakes and cookies galore and coffee, hot cocoa, and of course water and gatoraide. The meal at the end of day one was fit for kings. I would highly recommend this double century. I see that this year it is the second weekend in June. I would love to do it again but not this year. No training . . . I had foot surgery three months ago and I am just now allowed to walk on my foot and start spinning on my trainer. I believe there is a picture on my "old web site" (there's a link from my newer site).
Again good luck and have fun!

It sounds like you had a great time on your ride. And back to back centuries is an awesome accomplishment. Congrats!
But I think Veronica is talking about a 1-day double. When I looked at the Solvang Double Century (http://www.planetultra.com/solvang/) site it said it was a double century only, and the time limit was 15 hours.
While I've done back to back centuries, I've never attempted a double in one day. Veronica, I'm in awe! Best wishes tomorrow... (And I'm in awe of Nanci too who has logged some amazing one-day mileage in her brevet series.)

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, V! As I'm trudging up Lemon Drop Hill, I'll keep from complaining by remembering that you're probably flying up some 15% grade so I should just shut up and spin. ;)
You're going to do GREAT! I can't wait for the ride report.

Oh, you're doing a double? I didn't know ;).
Have fun, and remember to eat! I know you can do it!
What SK said - isn't Thom riding too, or did your evil coach bail on you?
I'll be sending out positive thoughts for everyone riding on Saturday, whether the Cindy or Solvang.

Evil Coach is riding. :D
Thanks all. I'm taking my camera, just in case I can stop and smell the flowers.
Yeah I am kind of stuck in that whole double thing. It's kind of taken over my life. BUT I'm still enjoying it, so it's okay.
Hope the weather is good up here for the Cindy ride.

Have a fun time! I always bring my camera, and never stop, and I always really wish I did. Then the one time I leave it home, I'll see something cool. So don't be like me!

checking in from Solvang.... I got down here around 3 and today would be a perfect day for the double: overcast, high 60's. I am told we're up to 80 percent chance of rain tomorrow. harumph!!! I hope to meet Veronica tonight at some point!
