Hey Caligurl,

thought about it but the 30 is too short and the 60 is outa my league at this point... I'm going to do a long ride (well, long for me anyway! ;) ) tomorrow instead.

Is Alpine on your "maybe" list or have you decided for sure? I met up with Bikerchick68 and we drove most of the route (w/detour for fabulous pizza.... YUMMMM!) and I'm still on the fence. I can get up to speed on the distance but not sure if I can pull of that elevation gain! I'll see how this next week's rides go and decide at that point. I'd only do the metric though, that's enough for me!

ps. thank you so much for all of your ride input - hugely helpful!!!!

hubby and i are beginning to wonder if redlands is out of our league! i really hope the 22% grade advertisement is hype! i know oak glen has a few short but very steep sections.. but none are 22% AND we aren't going up oak glen unless they change the route from what is published!

alpine is a maybe still but added to the calendar! it will all depend on how we both feel.... we WANT to do it.... but it's right between mulholland and BA... that would be 3 major climbing events in a row! granted last year i did alpine.. then BA.. then old route 66 and julian all in a matter of a couple weeks.... but that didn't include mulholland... and KOM is very important to me! i don't want to blow BA by doing alpine...

soooooooo we'll see how i feel! (maybe i can find erik on the road and chase after him for tranining!)

everything is there (i think) but las vegas (don't know when it is and smog to surf has moved to october (and will probably clash with las vegas.... *POUT*)

haven't decided either. As a Redlands resident I should, especially since the money raised goes to a city dogpark, which I would really use ... but I haven't been on the bike much in the last month. Game day decision ... and if I don't ride, I'll be up by the beer tent!

oh and no, there is a 22% grade but it's short ... you'll be fine. The ride is hilly, that's my native training ground ... it's challenging but not difficult.

Hey, I was born and raised in Redlands! It was fun to look at these route maps listed.

I remember some of those places very fondly, especially Sunset and Alessandro. There are some really steep nasty parts, but it's totally within your league. If there even is a 22% grade it won't last very long. I mean, I know I rode many of those roads when I was 13-14 and I really don't think I could have managed a prolonged 22% grade at that time.

You'll do fine! :)

small world. I went to high school in Yucaipa (Class of '88). My best friend still lives in Redlands. She doesn't bike though. Might make it out there to ride sometime, but will have to ride with my inhaler strapped to my mouth..... inland empire smog iick!
