So last night I was just finishing up my all-time favorite cycling book, "Heft On Wheels" for the third time, and I _finally_ figured out who Coach Troy was!!! I thought (coke alert) Coach Troy was Veronica's DH...

Ok, that made me laugh out loud... Veronicas evil husband in another life maybe?? I've got quite a collection of coach Troy torture dvds.:p
last year he did IM AZ so everytime he came by my aid station I couldn't help myself I just had to pop off a couple of "Troyisms" LOL:D
He gave me this look like "oh dear LORD, that chick must have my videos!!"...
My son and hubby are quite good at counting me down.. "5,4,3,2, oooonnnnnneeee.... soft pedal" heh heh
In fact once my son came by and said "keep your back FLAT mom, keep your back flat!" OY!!

"Evil Coach Thom"?? Naw, supporting loving hubby. I mean, only love would make you tell your wife to carry rocks around on her bike.

Veronica refers to Thom and her coach like they were two different people. Thom loves and supports her. Her coach makes her carry rocks up hills.:p

But only because he loves and supports me. :p

Yeah for sorry the confusion. Thom, my husband, is also coaching me for the doubles. He does make me do Evil Coach Troy tapes.

Is it me or does Coach Troy bother anyone else? If I hear him say "Come on now" on more time, I'm gonna puke. I have to mute my Irongirl Spinnerval DVD every time I use it. I think some of the gearing he wants everyone to use is ridiculous. Big ring in front, 15 in back while I'm on my trainer (that might be ok when riding outside, but not on the trainer). Yeah right...I'm gonna blow out my knees in 10 pedal strokes...

Everyone has different gears and different settings on their trainers. That's why he gives heart rate/exertion guidance.

CTS DVD's do a much nicer job and are more thought out in their training plan than Spinnervals. That and Coach Troy's banter is quite annoying. No more Spinnerval purchases for me.

Whatever you prefer. I have a couple CTS tapes and can't stand 'em. I just find it easier to translate ETC's methods to my own purposes.

I think Coach Troy is sloooooowly coming along though, his more recent DVDs use softer language, he doesn't mention "killing yourself" more than once or so !!! :D But seriously, I think he was "coached" on making his DVDs more appealing, esp as he started to incorporate women-specific training. Women don't seem to warm up to the typical "coach-in-your-face-screaming-routine"...we're more evolved than that...;)

So I take him with a grain of salt and follow the participants maybe more than I follow him. And I agree...follow the heart rate guidelines before you follow the gearing. He does emphasize this alot in his aerobic series to change gears if you can't stay below lactate threshold, etc.

It's a softer, kindler, gentler Troy....
