Anyone done this ride (http://www.tdfire.com/)? Any idea if they are actually going to have it this year? The website hasn't been updated but the Cycling Utah page indicates a date of May 6, 2006.

I figure it would be a really good butt kicker between the heat and the climbing. I need a good butt kicking, I think.

I have never heard or done this ride. The elevation gains gave me reason to pause.

Is it a bad sign when the logo includes a skeleton?

I did a double metric with 10000' last year, so I know I'm capable. Actually, the biggest issue with that one for me was back pain from being on the bike so long. The hills I just did low-and-go-slow.

But, like I said, I need a good butt kicking to get my brain back in the right place. I think this would do it for me. If I could survive the Tour de Fire, I could probably survive the Desperado Dual (http://www.desperadodual.com/)(seriously considering...just considering...).

We rode Red Rock just for the fun of it as part of our Vegas vacation last year. We rented bikes for the bike shop down the road, road that stretch to the canyon then rode the 13 mile loop of the canyon.

I never did such steep climbing before and yes, it sure was beautiful.

May can be VERY hot in LV; this route is beautiful, in that stark, desert way; the climbs go on a long way, and there is not much relief from the scorching sun.

Yes it is... but a good ride nontheless. Scenery is awesome.

Website was updated recently...the event is cancelled for 2006 due to road construction or some such thing.

I'm not sure if I should be glad or sad!
