I have done several longer distant rides and after riding 50+ miles or so I have a strange problem, my inner thighs swell. I know this sounds silly (I feel silly) but it is an uncomfortable feeling. I'm not sore just swollen! Has anyone else had this problem? and what do you think it could be caused from. My husband thinks it might be from the friction of my thighs rubbing on my bicycle seat. My seat is alread fairly narrow and my thighs, although not as thin as I would like them to be are not big either. If anyone has had this problem or has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

It could just be down to riding. When you say swollen are they painful as well, or could it be that they're just full of blood as you use your muscles.

I must admit it's not something I've come across myself. How long does it take them to go down?

Hi, MightyMitre ...the swollen thighs are not painful but believe it or not they do get hot to the touch and hard. I am not sure if it could be from the riding itself or not. It takes a day or two of not riding for the swelling to go down. I just went out and had my seat readjusted and I am still considering a new seat possibly with a nose that is more narrow. It really is a just more uncomfortable and annoying than anything else and I sure would like to think that I am not the only one to have such a strange problem. We recently did the Greenbriar Rails to trails in West Virginia and not only did my thighs swell, but I also developed a raised rash similar to hives on the top of my thighs....go figure it took two days to go away. Perhaps I am allergic to long bike rides, We did 80 miles one day and 35 the next. Anyway thanks for your response...

What if you're allergic to the heat that is generated or the spandex of your shorts? Just a thought...
