I have some big events happening in April and May. But any time after the middle of May should be fine. I love doing that ride (alone or with a group). We can check our schedules when it gets a little closer.

Slinkedog, you're going to have to block off the whole afternoon this time and do the entire ride!

V.24 Hours of Adrenalin at Laguna Seca in Monterey. It's May 13 & 14. I was so excited becaues we ALMOST got second girl on the team. But she changed her mind and decided not race.:(

I'm thinking V and I will be gone somewhere between June 26 and July 9.....

that leaves me with most of the date below:

Saturday, June 17
Sunday, June 18
Saturday, June 24 (?)
Sunday, June 25 (?)

Saturday, July 15
Sunday, July 16
Saturday, July 29

and the lunachix will be up to stuff too, but I can definitely break away....

SadieKate

You said,

Of course! Right now, I'm free any weekend in June . . .

Once the sun reappears maybe we can help with a couple more of the weekends.:D I've proposed to Princess Zippy that if the Coach drives her up for the Davis Double (5/20) the rest of us could ride The Dam Corners and Valleys Loop again. We'll do 62 to her 200 and be back for beer first. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Yes'm. Start in Winters.

aka_kim
03-31-2006, 01:24 PM
That would be fun (and, I'm free 5/20 too ;)). We might need to up the mileage a bit though, since we'll have LRRH a few weeks later.

SadieKate
03-31-2006, 03:24 PM
Ride from our house in Davis adds 33.34 completely flat boring miles.

Or just go east across Vaca Valley Rd (at the south end of Pleasants Valley Rd), up Gibson Canyon and up the east side of Cantelow back over to Pleasants Valley -- maybe 10 more miles and 1,200-1,500 ft of climbing. Cantelow is where everyone (but me :o ) stopped while Ed rode up to the top of a ridge and back down. The east side is longer but not as steep, just several little false summits. Folks who don't want to do this extra bit can opt out but we'd all end up back on the same course.

slinkedog
03-31-2006, 03:28 PM
If I could make it up for the 62 miler, would you guys be willing to wait for my slow hiney?

Adventure Girl
04-01-2006, 12:50 AM
OK. Here's what the spread sheet says.......

15 people responded that they wanted to do this ride. There are no dates where all 15 were available.

So I assigned numerical values.
Yes = 1 point
Maybe = 1/2 point
No = 0 points
If you didn't say you were unavailable for a given day, I counted it as a "yes".

Here are the results:
12.5 Points - Saturday, July 29
12.0 Points - Sunday, July 30
11.5 Points - Saturday, June 24
11.5 Points - Sunday, June 25
11.0 Points - Saturday, June 17
11.0 Points - Saturday, July 15
11.0 Points - Sunday, July 16
10.0 Points - Sunday, June 18
10.0 Points - Saturday, July 8
9.0 Points - Sunday, July 9

Anybody have other suggestions? Any of the dates would be ok for me. With a group of a dozen or so, I'd like to get a few more guides/helpers. I talked to Mr. Ed today. He's going to try to make it, so I better check the dates out with him.

And if anyone doesn't want to do the full 50 mile ride, there are lots of ways to cut a few miles out. Just let me know what you want to do.

The 29th looks good for me too....I will ask my partner if she's interested in driving the designated SAG vehicle. I guess I should ask if you all want a SAG??? It's a Durango and has a bike rack that can hold 4 bikes, and if we need to throw a couple on top we can do that too....(we have done that... ) If so, we may come down Friday night, then leave Sat night. She has to work on Sunday....

Oh, and can I invite another friend??

SAG would be great (but really boring for the SAG driver)! Maybe she could just hang around Monterey with copy of the map and a cell phone. She can spend the day just hanging around the Warf or Cannery Row. She can hang with the scuba divers or something! She could also drive along the 17-mile drive. It's really beautiful!

Casual rides like this don't usually have SAG, but you never know when you might need it. Bikerz blew a spoke on one of the Mt. Hamilton rides. We were lucky to have Ms. Snapdragen there to SAG.

The Bobs' social calendar is probably completely full! Oh... to be so popular!:p Yes. The scheduled date is Saturday, July 29th. That sounds so long away.

Susie - I hope you have your new bike by then. And I hope you're fully recovered. We won't be going over Aguajito road. This is a cruise along the coast.

winddance - We'd love for you to join us. I think we have about a dozen people or so.

Snap - Yes. This is a flat ride. Very flat.

We may break into groups if we end up with some speedsters and some non-speedsters. But it is definitely a no-drop ride, so don't worry. Every ride you do doesn't have to kill you. Some rides are just for fun!

About 100 miles (give or take a few) south of Oakland. You could meet, ride and go home - might make for a long day.

I think the plan was for 50 flat miles.

It is very unlikely that it will be too hot! I would guess that the temps should be mid 60's to low 70's.

This is an out and back route. Round trip is just under 50 miles. So if anybody wants to do a shorter ride, we can make arrangements. There's a good spot about 10 miles up the road. Starting and ending there would make a nice 30 mile loop.

It is flat flat. I rode an alternate course last weekend that had a little climbing. There was a short 15% grade, but the rest was pretty mild. But that course went inland. I prefer riding along the coast so I can watch the surf. Wind can be a factor.

I'll scour through the pages of this thread and get a list of riders and maybes for the ride.

I think I can grab a room for Friday night at a Courtyard using my Marriott points. Choices are Morgan Hill, Cupertino, Campbell and So San Jose. What's the best for 1) driving into Monterey in the morning and 2) nice nieghborhood. Any of them near a Peet's? I'll even make do with a Starbuck's (you didn't hear me say that).

I've had out-of-towner friends stay there before. About 2 or 3 years old. Pretty standard for a Courtyard. There's also a Residence Inn next door.

There are not Peet's around here. It doesn't bother my caffeine free body, but by caffeine addicted husband would be happier if they existed. There's a brand "S" a couple blocks away.

I can squeak out 1 night at the Residence Inn in Salinas - on El Rancho Way. Is that the one? It takes twice the points as Morgan Hill.

Having just spent a week with their coffee, even brand "S" looks good.

aka_kim and I are in negotiations right now. Her great decider powers have left her. The question is: do we drive down Friday night and then I try to stagger home after (estimate of 3 hours each way for me) or do I get up at the crack 'o dawn stupid and we make the drive that morning, stay the night so we can enjoy some post ride food and libation, and drive home the next day.

What time does the ride start this year?

What time does the ride start this year?Last year we started at 10:00. It's not the kind of ride that you have to start really early to beat the heat. (Now after saying that, watch it be screamin' hot). My vote would be to drive down early in the morning on Saturday, then spend Saturday night. Remember this is a FUN ride. You won't be killing yourself! But if you go the other way, libations could be had on Friday night!;)

Vino, a.k.a. These two are a perfect match and are both awesome humans in their own right, so it's no question where I should be on this date. ;)

I will SO miss seeing y'all at the Monterey ride, though! This looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome ride with all sorts of neat TE'ers. I haven't been able to think of a durn thing to do in Scottsdale itself. Old Town is walkable and good window shopping but expensive. Rage Cycles isn't that far away if you don't mind hoofing it but if it's hot you'll want to hang out at the pool.

If it is overcast with the monsoon season, the sun won't hurt as much so walking isn't as bad. Stores stay open pretty late due to the heat and tourists.

07-19-2006, 05:07 AM
hi everyone,

Sad times right now. In addition to fracturing my collar bone, Andrew and i have broke up (it happened after I returned from vacation). He's a wonderful person and has never treated me with anything but respect. My stubborn independent reserved nature has driven him away. I can't blame him but I feel empty inside and will miss him dearly. This is not the first time this subject has come up in our relationship and he is not interested in counseling. At 36, he believes I am who I am and will not change. I feel like a failure.

We're living together, and I - having taken the summer off - am without work/pay, which makes it difficult to move out. The immobility of my left arm adds another layer of difficulty. I can't bike to de-stress and I am unexcited about the prospect of interviewing right now. Basically, I am an emotional and physical mess. I won't be posting much but I know you will be sending heartfelt wishes my way............

thanks for your kind remarks and the phone calls. It all helps!

Hmmm. After reading the discussion on whether to post info about biking accidents, I feel obligated to defend my very personal post.

While some of you will find my post too personal and inappropriate for a public forum, my defense is this:

During the relationship, I would not discuss my feelings. I didn’t want to come off as weak. I didn’t want to burden Andrew and others with my life’s stresses. Rather, my feelings were expressed (to Andrew) by being abrupt and rude about trivial issues. I was taking my stress out on Andrew in a most unjustifiable way and he has finally had enough.

While on the trip with Veronica I was compelled to talk to her about the communication issues in my relationship (seeing how close she and Thom are), but didn’t. Too personal, I thought. I don’t want to burden her with *my* issues.

Following the break up, I contacted no one. Too embarrassed by the feeling that I have lost such a great guy due to my stubborn reluctance to express my feelings.

Finally, seeing my distress, Andrew insisted I talk to friends and I am beginning that process. Putting things in writing in such a public way forces me to acknowledge that I am hurt and is a way for me to overcome my reserve in expressing my feelings. “Yes World, I am human and my life is not perfect.”

For those who take exception to such public expression, my apologies for the offense.

Often this forum is welcoming and a joy to read. Other times, I feel ridiculed for my opinions and feelings.

Did I miss anybody? Is anybody on the wrong list?Revised list as of Monday, July 24th. This is becoming a huge disappointment! It seems like something that is planned sooooo far in advance wouldn't end up being just a handful of people. I understand some of the canceling (especially Cindy's broken collarbone:eek: and Susie still not being fully recovered from getting hit by a truck:eek: ), but this group really dropped.

The spreadsheet had 12.5 points for July 29th. That meant 12 yes and 1 maybe. I have asked 2 friends to be leaders/helpers. Maybe I shouldn't ask them to give up their day for this little event. :(

Are there directions posted anywhere?I hope you can make it! I think all the "maybe" people are "no" except you and dachsund. And the "yes" people have dwindeled to just a few.

Here are the directions:
Starting point is from the parking lot outside of Jack in the Box.
Address:
211 Reservation Road
Marina, California

For the mapquesters, this is the corner of Reservation Road and Del Monte Boulevard.

From Highway 1 southbound:
Exit Reservation Road
Turn Left on Reservation Road (go under the freeway) (go about 1/4 mile)
Turn Right to stay on Reservation Road (go another 1/4 mile)
(if you go straight, you'll be on Beach Road)
After you cross the railroad crossing, the next intersection is Reservation Road and Del Monte Blvd.
Go straight through the intersection (crossing Del Monte Blvd).
Jack in the Box will be on your left hand side.
Park in the parking lot adjacent to Jack in the Box.

See you Saturday at 10:00 AM!!

For clarity (I hope it is clear!)
When you exit Highway 1 you will turn Left on Reservation Road.
You will stay on that road for about 1/4 mile.
Then you will turn Right to stay on Reservation Road.
Stay on that part another 1/4 mile.

I am navigationally challenged! Sorry!

Maybe I should have thrown in 4 consectutive right turns or perhaps 2 u-turns to make it more interesting.

And I just sent Windance what I hope is a VERY persuasive email ... complete with subliminal messages. So we'll see!

Satruday there are 2 big events that may cause some traffic problems. The San Jose Grand Prix is in San Jose. And the Garlic Festival is in Gilroy. Both will add a "few" cars to the road. Be prepared.

The earlier you leave, the better. I know a back route around San Jose to 156 if anyone wants to go that way instead of down 101. But really, I think early as we are going, it won't be an issue. Coming home may be a little more nasty.

I just put air in my tires...

I'm getting water ready...

I'll be printing directions...

It sounds like I'm coming but I haven't entirely convinced myself yet...:p

Now since it's Biker Z's birthday you have to be nice to her on this ride:

First-push her up the hills or let her get to the top first
Second-Give her a big hug
Third-Treat her to a nice coffee & something sweetish!

Have fun ladies!! Remember-we want piccies

CC, I don't think there are any hills on this ride to speak of.

But your next two requests, that we can do !

Do my wondering eyes deceive me? Is this right? A heavenly high of 66 tomorrow? Bliss. Pure bliss.
