View Full Version : Wanted: Giro Atmos Silver size Small
Hi all,
I've been shopping for a helmet to go with my new road bike and fell in love with the Giro Atmos in ~Silver~, size Small. I've found 2004 and 2005 Atmos in this color, but it seems that in 2006 Giro isn't making it in the gorgeous all-silver I want. (They make one in white/silver, which is white with a few silver accents.)
After a whole lot of Googling (giro atmos silver -blue -white -£ -€ -uk), the best deal I found was the 2004 model on the World Cycling Productions site (http://www.worldcycling.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GIRHATMOS&Category_Code=Hel-shoe-sun) for a whopping $190.
Is it just me, or does $190 for a two year-old model sound kinda steep??
If any of you ladies see one of these online, in a store, on eBay, or anywhere else, could you please point me in the right direction? I would be most grateful!

Well it is steep but if it's so sought-after maybe that's why they can ask so much money for it... Which is actually the current retail price of the helmet if I remember correctly. So if it's new, and unless the new models have undergone major improvements (which I am unaware of...), I'm not surprised that they charge the same price.
Good luck! It's a great helmet! (even if I prefer the white one...)

I looked, but couldn't find one at all. I have the Atmos Lonestar. I love it.

Hmmmm, it might not be wise to buy a 2 year old helmet in the first place since you are supposed to replace them at least every 5 years, even if you've never crashed it (in which case you should replace it immediately)
I have the new white and silver model and think its just dandy.

You make a good point, but just to clarify... The helmet is a model from 1-2 years ago, but I want to buy it new. I posted here to ask if anyone had seen it somewhere, since older models tend to go on sale when the new ones come out. That's why I was so surprised that the 2004 Atmos was being sold online for $190, when you can find the 2005 and even the 2006 model for quite a bit less.
Incidentally, when I looked online I saw the silver Atmos on sale at several UK web stores. The problem is that at approximately $1.7 to the British pound, what might be a deal to someone in the UK isn't much of a deal to me.
The new white and silver model is pretty, but I was looking for something to match my bike, which is almost all black with silver decals and silver bar tape. There's a black 2006 Atmos which would work as well, and I can get it for much less than $190... I just really liked the silver one. ;)

I just checked Ebay and there's about 10 sm giro atmos helemts new 2005/6 for anywhere between $90 and $150, but none in silver. I would recommend a current model and $190 is steep for a manufactured 2 year old helmet. I was fortunate enough to win a 2006 Robobank (orange, blue, & white) atmos helmet for $75 w/pod. I was pretty happy about that but all I was looking for was a 2006 in a small. If you have to have silver, I'd say keep on shopping but if you're flexible and don't mind white or black, then definitely buy for a lot less on Ebay.
Good Luck.:)
Wow, a 2006 Rabobank with pod for $75 sounds like an awesome deal! I really love the combination of white, blue and orange. I know a few people here who bought that one because it matched their Orbea road bikes, and it looks gorgeous.
As for my silver helmet... I'm going to follow everyone's advice and get a new one. I just can't stomach paying $190 plus shipping for a 2004 model. So I've ordered the 2006 in Black/Pewter and it's going to cost a lot less than $190, too.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I can't wait to get my new helmet. :)
