Was wondering if anyone else from here is headed to Richmond for the Worlds? My husband and I are going to be there for the men's road race. We, unfortunately, can't go for the entire week. So we picked the road race for what we really want to see. We're really excited about going. First time we've been to a cycling event. Also looking at it as a once in a lifetime opportunity to see many of these guys.

I thought about it, since some friends were planning to go, but now they've had to cancel. And something has come up that I need to do on the day of the women's road race, which I was most interested in. So I think I will miss it.

I've kind of lost interest in pro cycling lately. The male riders I liked have retired, either by choice or as punishment, and most of the new ones I was interested in have either been sidelined by injury or just not doing much. I didn't watch any of the TdF this year or any of the other televised races. Still it would be kind of fun to experience something like that in person.

Sorry you won't be able to go. My husband's favorite rider is injured or at least was injured and won't be there. On the other hand, my favorite (Alejandro Valverde) is going to be there. So I'm really excited to see him.

There is an annual criterium series near my home that includes a men's pro race in addition to amateur races, and I went to that one time when some of my favorites from the old CSC team were there. It was definitely fun to see them up close.

I've actually never been to Richmond, despite living in DC and northern VA for 18 years. I only made my first trip to Charlottesville last May and still haven't been to Monticello -- for various reasons I've been more inclined to explore Maryland. But after recently re-watching the Ken Burns documentary on the Civil War I am thinking that I really need to visit Richmond and some of the battlefields between there and Fredericksburg. I'm hoping I do some exploring by bike.

Have fun!!

I was a kid when my family had a vacation in Richmond, so this is the first time as an adult I'll be in Richmond. We plan on doing on doing some sightseeing on Saturday and go to the men's RR on Sunday. I hope you do get a chance at some point to explore Richmond.

I will be watching the women's elite and men's elite road races. I will also do the Colonial Fondo on Saturday morning.

I just read that Evie Stevens TT bike got stolen, but it has been recovered.
Phew. That really would suck.

I just heard about that as well. Also glad to hear it has been recovered.

We had a great time. We did get to Richmond early enough on Friday to watch the U23 race. Then watched the men's race on Sunday. Found a spot between Broad and Grace on Belvidere where we got to see them go by twice per lap. My husband took about 2,000 pictures total for the weekend, most during the men's race on Sunday. We only started to go through the pictures and we did get some really good ones. Thought I'd share one here for everyone to enjoy. 17818
