Hey Susan, how about selling TE logo baseball hats? Maybe your web-site on the back. Just thinking it would be a great way for us to spot fellow members when we are off the bikes. I know I'd buy one, especially if it was purple. :D

Blue and yellow or purple and yellow would be great... as long as there's a place to put my ponytail in when I run!!

I like to have a hat to wear for post-group-ride noshing. It would be great to advertise TE at group rides!! :)

OK, so suppose I were to order TE hats. What would be your target price to pay?

We have a number of companies that make really nice run-style hats (baseball brim, mesh tops for coolness, ponytail port in the back) that can be custom embroidered pretty much however we'd like.

I'd need to do some volume, so I guess I'd first want to make sure I can make 'em for what y'all would be willing to pay for 'em :-)

$15. Terry has 2 hats which were priced at $20. One went on sale at $15 so I ordered it.

http://www.terrybicycles.com/detail.html?c=Apparel&sc=Headgear+%26+Glasses&item_no=1707

Cervelo was selling hats at their booth at the Tour of CA for $15. A lot were being purchased. I'm not sure if the sales volume would have been as high at $20.

Grog

15-25$ would be reasonable. I got one from my university for 20$ CDN, but they have MASSIVE volume, and they're not as nice to me as TE is. :)

Brina

$25 would be an absolute max and for that price it would have to be very cute and very functional.

Surlygirl
03-08-2006, 03:41 AM
I think 15-25 is reasonable also and stays competitive with the other hats you sell on your site. Also if you put the www. on the back you get the advertising benefit.

$15-25 would work for me, too. On the lower side is better, though.

And did someone already mention that there should be a blue option? (To go with my blue TE keyring, of course.)

Yeah, $15-25 would be good. That's what I have paid for sons vast collection of hats. I swear I have more Red Sox hats here than they have at Fenway Park. I also vote for purple...tis the color of nobility!!

$15-25.00 for me also. As my bike is red along with most of my jersey's I really would like a red as an option, but if there is not much of a call for it, I will be ok with blue.

I'd be in for one (or two if they have some mesh and fit little heads) at $15 - $25. I have lots of hats from motorcycling related sites and brands but they're all ugly guy colors...it would great to have a pretty color for a change.

blue or pink for me...orange would be nice but i realize you volume on orange would be pretty low:(

and i like the price $15...

'most any color as long as it fits! I need a big hat, cause I have what my mother charitably refered to as a "prominent forehead". I just call it a big head.

heh. That's my problem. I have a very very VERY wide head. :( Hats typically don't fit right and my head is wider than my husbands. :/ Typically pretty annoying. :(

Hey, What's wrong with orange! I like orange! I put orange in just about every quilt I make, and I seem to make alot of quilts. But given a choice I would have to go with pink. Not my most favorite color, see above, but the accent color on my bike. Price wise $15. to $20, is OK! BikerHen

You aren't alone. Got one, too. High forehead and a big noggin. I can't wear the helmets designed for women (too small) and the nice balacava I got from Terry is sized for more cute smaller gal heads. the face opening stretches up over my forehead, which gives me brain freeze!

My one consolation is that I have a big brain, too. haha!!! ;)

Hi Susan,
Was there ever a verdict on your part about the hats?

Hi Susan,
Was there ever a verdict on your part about the hats?

Yes, we decided to make hats! But, we are in the middle of a logo re-design and want to use the new logo. We estimate the logo work should be done in the next 4-5 weeks, so we'll be able to move on hats (along with our long-delayed, redesigned TE jersey) after that.

We're very excited about the new logos. We've been wanting to update for a while. The work-in-progress from the designer looks great.

Very cool. I had it on my calendar to email Jeff about the logo because we want static window decals to use at organized rides. Something big in the window so others can find us. Maybe by June 1 for the Little Red Riding Hood.

I swear, logos are the one of the hardest things to do.

Yes, it's not easy. We actually contracted with two designers to do initial sketches and with the idea that we would then choose the one that suited us. We thought. Well, we had a great debate over what to go with, what translates best on both the web, and on tees, jerseys, etc. In the end, I think we made the right choice, but it was tough!

Susan

so $15 would be the most I would pay for a hat. I guess it comes from the fact that all of the hats I own have been freebies.

And I would actually like white--cool for summer, and goes with everything.

Are the jerseys going to have elastic at the bottom? I'd vote no elastic, but maybe that could be an option. Am I driving you crazy yet? :D

$15 hat, in purple or white.

And a purple, yellow, or blue static-cling logo to put on my car window. $5.

And a Surly Long Haul Trucker. $20.

Thanks.:D

I also vote NO ELASTIC on the jersey sleeves or arms. It would be great it they were styled similar to the Shebeest S-cut (shaped but not too tight, and a bit longer in the back).

I'm hoping that you all eventually put out a Buff with the TE logo. Buffs are my new under helmet gear--can use them all year round, make them into a balacava for cold weather and a sweat absorbing beanie for the summer.

It will come as no surprise to those of you involved in the arts or marketing that our logo redesign has taken longer than originally expected. However, just yesterday our graphic designer came to the office with a final set of designs that we agreed upon. We expect to get everything from her in final format in the next few days.

We're very excited about our "new look". It will start with the logos, but Jeff is redesigning the look and feel of the entire website to match. That will take a bit longer to implement fully but we're excited nonetheless.

So, sorry for the longer-than-expected timeframe on new hats & jerseys, but we haven't forgotten about you! :) We hope you'll like the end result.

$20 - 22 seems to be the going rate for most logo/baseball style hats. And I would be willing to pay that much to get a TE hat. But I would recommend a black hat (to go with most bike shorts etc. and easier to color coordinate with bright jerseys) with then the bright yellow TE logo and some hot pink and royal blue thread to spell out TEAM ESTROGEN and to add the website etc. I think black would offset the TE nicely and make it Pop and stand out plus the blue and pink thread would be nice - just like the website/discussion forum logo and print (upper left corner - my computer).

I definitely want a hat. Colors aren't important. Maybe I'll pick up a jersey too. I'm tired of DISCOVERY everything now. :) I wanna advertise as I ride because I don't see a lot of women, african american or otherwise in my neck of the woods riding.Maybe if they see me.....

I'm finding this thread kind of late, but how about a woman sized cycling style hat? I've been looking for one that I can wear under my helmet on rainy days (mainly for the brim). I have an old one of my husbands - but my team mates make fun of me. They say I must be the only person in the world that can make a cycling hat (and especially the teeny brim they usually have) look too big.......

My husbands team hats are really nice nylon type material instead of cotton so they don't hold a lot of water if its mucky.

Team Estrogen has been in a several-month-long redevelopment of our logos. We finally finished them last week, and Jeff has been busy this week placing orders for new logo'd items. As I glance over at his desk, I can see he has the graphics up on his screen for our new t-shirts designs. Waterbottles were ordered just this a.m. Two days ago we had a hat vendor in here showing us blanks. I wasn't crazy about their hats tho' because I thought they'd be too big for most women's heads. So, we're still looking for a more appropriate vendor. But rest assured, we are definitely working on it! Our TE jerseys will take a little longer, both because the design is more complex, and because the lead time from the manufacturer is much longer.

Jeff is also working on window clings, as SadieKate and a few others have requested them to help them identify each other in event parking lots, etc.

Hope this info helps.

Susan

Susan - this year at the LifeCycle orientation they gave us some pretty nifty hats - the label inside says WICKid Performance. Kind of a thin nylony fabric, with an adjustable velcro strap in the back. It's a nice hat.

and here's their site: http://www.wickidgear.com/products.aspx?productid=2423&catalogID=1
