So 6 years ago I went and had some kids. Well - not all at once. First came my son, and then 3 years later, my daughter. I did my due diligence and put them in a bike trailer (Chariot), and a jogging stroller, and bike seats. Even managed to cart my son around in South Africa as we biked through some wine region areas when he was just 10 months old.
Even with all that effort, however, I fell out of my routine of biking. For exercise, I kept up some running, as I live in the city, and it is an easier alternative to go out the front door for a good run, than a good long bike-ride. Alas, work, marriage, and (mostly) motherhood did my biking in. Now, my little guy turns 6 in a week and a half, and my daughter is now 3. They are more self-sufficient. And I'm craving the saddle again.
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just jumping back on the bike. I discovered a torn labrum in my right hip last March, while training for a marathon. Two weeks ago, I had a FAI / labrum repair arthroscopic surgery on that hip. I am walking with a cane, and I still have some physical therapy to go through, and it will be a while before I'm back in shape, but I'm DYING to get on my bike. The doctor said I could bike "as feels comfortable" at any point now. I think I'm going to start on a stationary at the gym. I'm so out of shape now, because I haven't run or anything since mid March. I'm nervous for those first few workouts. They will kick my butt for sure.
So here I sit during recovery. I find myself reading triathlon books, and scrolling through bike pins on Pinterest. As I've been looking to feed my bike fantasies, I remembered my account here on Team Estrogen! It's been years since I checked in. And now I see you are still going strong and look better than ever!
Anyway, this is all by way of saying, it's good to be back. I plan on relying heavily on you gals to help get me back in the saddle again!
Much love!
