I'm pretty sure you're taking your life into your hands if you try it downtown. I admit I don't have a lot of faith that it's going to be enforced anymore than the 3 foot rule is.

boy are they optimists or what? In Houston green is the other color of traffic light you can run along with red and yellow. Green bike lanes just seem like serving the bikers up on a platter like a Christmas goose.

There are lanes like this in other places, and we've ridden them. I'm thinking Missoula, MT had them. They seemed to work fine, but it does take some good signage and driver education/awareness. Not sure how well they'll play in the south!

an expensive ticket could help..:) if that's the just finished lamar street lane it may be more about the first protected lane in the downtown area and just problems with the lane being so new. there are some good positive articles on that lane on the bike houston site i just read....it's also good to see houston doing a protected lane in the downtown area that connects to two bike paths going into neighborhoods outside the city core.

The bike separation barrier from cars, looks useless.
Vancouver BC uses a range of different barriers -- heavy cement planters that are waist high, concrete raised curb, jersey barriers, bike carrels...

You have to admit the green paint looks nice. I hope there is enforcement!

Here's a video of a bike lane in NYC.
