Brewer and I are headed there for a week in June for fun and know hardly anything about it.

My daughter and her husband are moving there soon;
she will be doing a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Emory http://www.sltrib.com/home/2315016-155/match-day-utah-sends-74-students

So we figured we'd go and take a look at what's outside the airport.

Which parts are bike friendliest?
Which neighborhood would be good for a week's stay? We're thinking Extended stay America or Residence Inn, but there
What should we do when we're there?
What's fun?
What's funny?
What's the best brew pub?
What else do you think we should know.

What should we avoid to stay out of trouble?

I've only been to Atlanta once, back in 2001 for the Athens to Atlanta inline skating race. I recall lots of rolling hills between Athens and a town called Dacula, which was the finish line for the route I skated. I recall thinking it would have been way more fun on a bicycle, but unfortunately I have no idea what roads we were on.

I know absolutely nothing about Atlanta, but wanted to say congrats!! As an incoming (second career) medical student, I am already anxious about match day:) You (and she) should be very proud!!

There's a great bike path, the Silver Comet Trail, we cycled last year while staying in Atlanta for a couple of days. My husband actually rode from Alabama to Atlanta! The next day I got to ride part of it it from our hotel in Atlanta (we stayed at a VERY nice La Quinta) and got in 50 miles round trip. I highly recommend the Silver Comet if you like paved bike paths. The scenery is pretty, and it's very well-maintained.

if you like emily's photos and description of the silver comet trail you might want to also look at some of the other Path Foundation trails (https://pathfoundation.org/trails/) in the area.

I spent some time in Atlanta during my college years but what I did there probably wouldn’t be what you want to do….. East Atlanta Village and the Atlanta Rollergirls ftw :)

Yes, Blueberry--I don't know how a system could be more nerve-wracking than the Match system.

The bike trails look good, we're working out how to take our foldies. The puppet museum sounds like a lot of fun.
We don't really want to do anything when we're there. Just relax a lot, and look around a little bit. Brewer and I are both working way to hard right now, so we just need to stop doing that for a few days.

The kid and her husband may be shopping for a house by then, so we may join in that fun.
