I think the folks who contribute to this forum are pretty fair - we rarely are critical of bike mfg, etc and then only when things go south for no reason. I just wanted to shout out to Surly today. I have had my Surly ECR for a year now and right off the bat I was having issues with shifting. When dropping from the large chain ring to the small the chain would over shoot, fall off or I'd have chain suck. Many of our customers had the same issue, especially on the smaller bikes (so lots of women". With several emails back and forth to Surly they took on the challenge head on. With some trial and error it was decided the primary issue was the chain rings on the crank set they'd chosen for the bike and not the riders (I knew that but ya know how engineers types are)
Over the course of the last 4 or 5 months they have let us be the test pilots of some "fix it" options and have now arrived at a quick fix for existing ECR's and changed the design on new ones. They promptly sent us new chain rings to fix all our customer's bikes too.
The best part is they sent me an awesome t-shirt - the Surly women's LHT graphic on the front as both a thanks and a sorry to put you through that.
Moral of the story (I suppose) if you are having an issue with your bike, Always tell your bike shop - sometimes is really is the bike and not the bike rider.
