And (almost) already spent. I'm going to go get a new Thule setup for my car as I can't carry both mountain bikes (mine and DH's) with the disc brakes on my current rack.
Whooooopppeeee! We spent less there in 2005 than I thought we did, but the dividend will still at least pay for the towers. I guess it was the year before when we got the new tent, etc! :p
Now, I await the drying of the trails. It feels like winter is "over" here, but I've been warned that it's not.

I just when running out to the mailbox to check. I figure since Bubba is out of town it's finders-keepers.:p Instead, there was a different kind of dividend in the mailbox. Us remedial types may need extra directions in how to be a foo-foo girl.:D

Got mine yesterday too but since I no longer live in a state that has REI mine is really really small. I might be able to buy a couple Larabars but that's about it.

Didn't do much REI shopping last year... 8.71! WHOO HOO!:p
For the record I TRIED to buy a new pair of PI's there a couple of weeks ago but all they had were the cheapo models..

You'll have to ask your Dad. The membership's in his name (though the staff there always pronounce it as if it's my name). The dividend goes to our mailbox in Trondheim. Buuuut ... that said, they have it on the computer at the store. I'll try not to spend it all before you get here. Also your glæmma may have some dividend to spare. She uses an REI visa card.

SK has noted that the different REIs carry different inventory based on the market. She noticed that the store here in Salt Lake carried lower end cycling clothing than the one there in CA where she lives.
Now whether or not they are actually doing their research is a whole 'nother question. A couple of years ago the store near the town where I used to live decided to quit carrying telemark ski gear as a result of their market analyses. They ended up bringing it back because so many people complained.
So complain...er...comment ("complain" is such a negative word...)! It seems to work with them, esp if you are a member. :D

It was a couple of sales clerks in the women's section of the SLC REI that told me this. Said they could not sell the higher end clothing in SLC.
I love that your dividend is now on the compooter, so you don't have to have the piece of paper in hand. I like getting it in the mail. It's a little spring time ritual.

I wish you could get your dividend info online. I hope I get mine today!!! It would make for a nice weekend shopping spree! (Plus I have a $25 gift certificate to use with it that Power Bar gave me for some gel testing I did for them.)
I specifically did Christmas shopping at REI just to bulk up my dividend! (Plus, my mother in law really NEEDED that cast iron dutch oven so she can make something really nice for our camping trip this summer. :p

Sigh - I moved to Delaware and the nearest REI is about 120 miles away. Thought I had bought more stuff by mail but I guess not. My dividend was $2.55. What can I buy for that?

I got $5 and change. I don't live in a city with an REI any more. In fact, that probably reflects how many Sharkies I bought! And the $5 is too late to apply toward my $100 rain pants...

Got mine yesterday - a whopping $2. How much did I spend? $856.41!!!
Why is my dividend so measly? Because the majority of my purchases were ON SALE!!!
I think it's a crock of sh*t that REI doesn't give you anything for purchase made on sale. Even 50% would be ok, but instead they give you nothing. I've been buying a lot of stuff at Performance now instead because they'll give you points no matter what.

I have the REI Visa card. I believe that they give you 1% back on anything that you charged for the year....which is why I have a $200 credit.

I don't normally buy much cycling stuff at REI. If I'm there and need lube or whatever, I'll pick it up, but I don't go there for that kind of stuff. We do a lot of hiking and backpacking and snow sports and that's usually what we spend our $$ on. I probably spent $100 on wax alone last year (and I buy the cheap wax)!
Incidentally, REI couldn't fulfill my car rack needs (not before our trip in April, anyhow) so I still haven't spent my dividend (oooops...sorry... OUR dividend :p ). I did get my rack stuff elsewhere but had to mix Yakima & Thule to get what we needed. What a pain. But we have it now and are good to go!

81.77, but your Dad just asked me to pick up some boots for him that cost nearly 100. I also got pants for Bjørn and some bike stuff for me (emergency repair kit, teeny tiny pump, and arm warmers). Doesn't matter tho'. I'll take you shopping anyway.

FYI all of you not living near an REI (neither do I as there are NONE in Europe) -- I registered online and it tracks my dividend for me. When I check out it lists the amt remaining and asks me if I want to use it for this purchase. We bought some bike stuff and ski cases last year so we had about $80. I've spent some of it and it just keeps track of the amount remaining.
(Think Jimmy Buffet) I blew out a flip flop..... I am getting new sandals with mine. I wore out my birks and Tivas finally. Now I can only afford one pair for walking/after hiking/biking and water. Has anyone tried the Keen Newports?

I love my Teva flip flops....they're so cushy comfy ;)
I have not gotten a pair yet, but I tried on the Keen flip flops with the "bumper toes" that came out last year (good for doing errands on your bike and not worrying about scraping your toes off) and they seemed really comfy, but more like the stronger soled Teva sandals, or Merrells. I think if they had my size I would probably buy a pair. Sturdiness looked good but I would lounge around with them like I do my Teva flip flops.

I use my REI Visa card for just about everything... received over a $600 rebate!!
You don't have to just shop at REI to get the dividend, you can get 1% back for using the REI credit card! I buy groceries, pay utilities, big ticket items, small ticket items all add up.
Well worth checking it out.:p

Somehow the mail has not reached southern utah. Now that I know they are out, I will have to keep my eyes peeled for its arrival.
I wish there was an REI closer to St. George. I usually do internet shopping through them. Actual stores are Vegas or SLC.
Yellow-thanks for the input of cycling stuff in SLC. I went to the one on
33rd South once, a year or so ago, and ended up with my PI jacket or vest in hi-vis yellow. I always end up going in there and drooling over everything, even on the computer.

I got an email that told me my dividend; I haven't yet received anything in the mail. I charged a washer and dryer on my REI card so I got a decent dividend this year; not sure yet what to spend it on. I'm itching to put red tires on my Sequoia to go with the red bar tape but the tires on there have only 700 miles on them.

Discloser: I work for the REI "Mothership" in Seattle. Yep, they've been good to me, and I get the best health-care coverage I've EVER gotten anywhere, despite being a part-timer while in school. I mean full-on dental, health, vision, including massages. For $20 a month all told. :D
So, come visit me, y'all Seattleites! I practically live there on the weekend.
And I charge my tuition to my REI visa......then promptly pay it off. Which means my dividend, plus my employee deal is going to buy me a commuter bike this week! Take THAT, gas prices!
As for the dividend, you don't need the coupon- it's in the computers. If you're signed up with an online account, they email you your dividend amount. And don't forget about the accompanying 20% coupon!
Having said that, our cycling selection isn't the best, especially for things like clothing and shoes. Plus, I like to support the LBS whenever possible. We're pretty good at covering most bases, but it's a case of not really specializing in any. Cheers!
As for not getting the dividend deal on sale items- your membership can be thought of as one "share" of stock in the company, which means you get proceeds based on your purchases and how much profit the company makes. Sale items do not result in profit (or barely any)- so you are in essence getting so much of a deal on the item that we'd lose money giving you more. Given that sale stuff is almost always at least 20-30% off, you're getting a better deal than you do with the dividend. It's not done to be mean, it's simply economics. Plus, did I mention how they pay our health insurance? Happy employees are worth it!

My SO and I both have REI Visa cards. Our dividends added up to $140.
We live within walking distance to the smallest REI store, here in Grand Junction, CO, so we shop there a lot. I just got some things at the great clearance sale they had. Got some $60 tops for $15-20, PI longsleeve jersey for $30, etc.
Not sure what I'm going to get with the dividend yet. I don't really *need* stuff right now, but you never know what tomorrow will bring.
There is an REI Garage Sale at the end of March, so we may use some of the dividend there if we find something good that we can't live without.

So I log on and see a thread I started 2 years ago pop up!
I have no idea what we'll do with our $85 this year. I'll probably let DH spend it as "bribery"...he's starting to reach a level of frustration with what he describes as my "sickness" (that would be very regular exercise, sometimes more than one type in a day). :p
We're probably going to go hike a portion of the South Coast Path on the other Big Island (Great Britain) and will probably use the dividend for part of one of the fancy day packs that we intend to buy for this adventure (we're hiking from inn to inn, so not big packs).

I use my REI card a lot, and shop at REI a lot, so I have a fairly hefty dividend this year. It would cover about half the cost of a Garmin 705, so I'm giving that some serious thought.

I haven't seen my dividend come in yet. No idea what it is...probably not a whole lot, as we shop mainly on the sales rack! ;)
However, I'm wondering if I can work it with the DH and - combined with the 20% off sale, get some new panniers. I really am jones-ing for the Ortlieb BackRollers (http://www.rei.com/product/604989)....

Wow! I would have just lobbed that REI catalog straight into the recycle bins this morning if not for this thread! (They don't usually offer the things I am interested in the catalogs, and most of the clothing they offer wouldn't fit me in a million years) 58 bucks! I was just pondering the possibility of replacing my Serfas saddle, but was reluctant to do so because it feels like I do nothing but throw money at that spoiled brat of a bike I have. This way it's practically free. (the hoo-ha rejoices...)

Emily-
We split between the LLBean and REI cards. More on the REI card this year because someone stole our LLBean card number, and we had to switch auto billing to another card while waiting on the (very slow) replacements. We also bought 2 kayaks from REI this year, which bumped it up significantly.
No idea yet:) I might get a Garmin Edge - but I feel like I have to earn it. I also want to try the Keen Cycling Sandals. We'll see:)
