If a cyclist has crashed and is lying on a relatively narrow portion of a MUP, would it maybe be a good idea for passing cyclists to get off their bikes and walk past his prone body? Yes, there was room to pass -- but is it really good manners to cycle a couple of feet from an injured person's head?

I've seen this before -- I guess it had more impact on me today because I was birding and hung around for a while (though of course I moved away from the accident site).

The injured cyclists was protected; people had stopped to help and were alerting oncoming pedestrian and cycle traffic. But even after a fire truck, a police car, a parks dept. car, and two security company cars arrived -- people were still not walking their bikes around the scene.

I dunno -- maybe it's just me. But it looked disrespectful. I hope the guy is okay.

it sounds like the path was wide enough to have people around/taking care of the fallen cyclists and alerting bicyclists and still have enough room to ride around the scene. If it wasn't interfering with care being given it wouldn't bother me....even if i was the one who was on the ground. Now everyone walking slowly by and gawking would be rude and uncomfortable to me....

hoping the cyclist is okay too........

+1. I would say the rules are the same as for a car accident - slow down enough to get by safely, but not so slow that you risk causing another accident, or because you're rubbernecking. Glance at the scene enough to establish that the injured are safe and help is present or on the way, then eyes back on the road and get out of the way as safely and as quickly as you can.

Hope they're okay.
