Hello!
I'm new to all of this. Just started cycling on my brand new Specialized Tricross a few weeks ago. Feels great and I'm really enjoying it.:) Gives me a chance to get out and see some of the area around where I live. I did 29 miles on Sunday and was very proud of myself, although I still have a ways to go before I'm ready for the 07 Aids Ride.
The only problem is, I only moved here a few months ago and I haven't found anyone to ride with. Does anyone know of any good, supportive groups cycling in Essex, England? I don't have a car (the bike is my main source of transport) so I was hoping to find someone to share rides with in the area around Colchester. Any suggestions?

Hi uk elephant.
I'm in the UK too, but "oop North" in relation to you unfortunately - Preston, Lancs (though I'm Scottish really).
To find out some more I would look on SheCycles:
www.shecycles.com
Its a UK based women's site, with some interesting articles and forum that definitely has "southerners" on it! If you post a question on there someone my be able to help out.
Also Cycling Plus - a general cycling forum:

Hope this helps

We may have more Brits here than we think. I thought I saw some surfing on the wrong side of the page  lots of new members lately or....invite the Brits from over there to TE.
Hope you'll stick around.

For those of you that have been around a while...remember my thread around the first of the year re: statistics?
Here's an addition: Most number of family members on TE forums: Trek420 family, followed closely by BikerHen (hey, where's the Chick been anyhow?).
Welcome elephant! I won't say what my nickname was when I was a child, but let's just say it was much less flattering than yours (elephants are incredibly talented and intelligent, after all)!

The nickname has nothing to do with her figure, btw. She's a fit, outdoorsy type: tall, slim, muscular ... at least seasonally when she's been climbing mountains for a summer. The nickname is just a pun that happened to her accidentally when she was about 3 weeks old and about that weight in kilos. Poor thing. Of course, since she's kept on using it, I guess she kinda likes it. There's even an International Elephant Appreciation Day she can celebrate! (Sept. 20-something, I think).

My little chick's around, she said she just doesn't have anything exciting to say. Of course mt biking season hasn't really started yet, and since that seems to be floating her boat, I'm sure she will be a little more talkative this summer. If you ask me, I think she's just a little pissy cause I've been putting in the miles on the trainer and road this winter and totally smoked her on our last ride! BikerHen

I would LOVE it if my ma smoked me on the bike! I'd be so proud of her!
