It is time, I need the money and my lovely plum custom Gunnar actually needs a home where she will be ridden. I simply cannot ride her since my neck injury and after almost 3 years that isn't going to change. I will post more pics and her stats this weekend, but wanted to give a shot across the bow. I am also considering taking her apart and selling the parts individually, but I would like to try to sell her as is first.
Until I've time to give more information, here are some older pictures of her from this forum. The only change is she no longer has the bar-ends (check out the picture of her in the "Gunnar bush" photo)! She DOES come with the seat-post mounted rack and Arkel bag. I will post my price this weekend.

Since the Gunnar is pure custom, I can't assign an easy size to her, so here is her lovely dimensions :) $1,300 + shipping gets her home to you. A reasonable offer will be considered. If I can't sell her here, or elsewhere, over the next month, I will take her apart and sell her that way, but I do hope that she can go to a good home in one piece where she can be ridden as she deserves.
A new full custom frame from Gunnar of this type runs between $1,250-$1,300. (http://gunnarbikes.com/site/bikes/pricing/) If someone is just interested in the frame, I would consider $850+shipping. My LBS would do any packaging.
My fitter/builder said that he is happy to answer any questions about the bike, he knows how well she has been cared for. Let me know via messages if you would like his contact information.
Gunnar custom high-quality light steel frame (they have their own custom steel drawn for their bikes)
Candy Plum over Charcoal Silver (beautiful color!)
It only weighs around 24-25 pounds built but don't quote me on that. She is small and light! My fitter called her the "swiss army knife" of bikes :-)

I neglected to mention that I DO have this posted on my local Craigslist, but at a higher price. I am giving TE members a several hundred dollar discount, especially since shipping would likely be involved. If you live in a bordering state to Indiana I would be willing to meet you halfway.

Bump - I know the price is high, and it is a small bike, but it really is the only bike in the world that is exactly like this one :-) I also wanted to give TE members the chance if there is any interest. I would like to sell it this summer, but I won't take it apart to sell for parts until the end of July. All reasonable offers considered.

Catrin, I am sure your bike would fit me, but I don't need another bike!
I hope you find someone who will appreciate it, but I also hope your neck gets better, so you can ride again.

Thanks Crankin! After close to 3 years I don't have much hope, but it would be nice. It is depressing seeing this lovely bike collect dust for so long...time for her to go to a new home. The frame would also be a great build project for someone :)

$75 + shipping for the rack and trunk bag? The rack is rated for 25 pounds, which was never a problem for me but I never used it for grocery runs. PM me if you are interested and we can discuss details.
I hadn't heard about the Bicycle Trader, will have to go over there, thanks!
Edited: Posted at the Bike Trader site - the ad still has to be approved so it isn't live yet. The price is a bit higher than here...

If I didn't have a lovely frame sitting in my garage waiting to be built up (it's been there for over a year now) and three other full bikes that I love, I'd totally be interested. Gorgeous color and in my size, too. Oy!

Catrin - I'm sorry you decided you need to sell the bike, but I may be interested. I have a bunch of questions (such as, "how tall are you?") but I'm at work now. I can pm you tomorrow (if you prefer) or carry on the conversation here on the message board.

I've received a couple of questions about the kind of riding this bike is designed for. It really is a one-of-a kind bike that doesn't really fit a particular category. It falls somewhere between a rigid mountain bike and a cyclocross bike - and can really be used for everything from light mountain bike to commuting. It is designed for an upright riding position. My fitter calls it the Swiss Army Knife of bikes, I used it for very long rides, and I also used it for commuting and for just playing around on to have fun! It will take up to a 26 x 1.75 tire - though that wide of a tire means all of the air must be let out of the tire to get it past the brake calipers when removing the wheel :) I've always had tires of that size on it (Conti Travel Contacts), I LOVE those tires.
I am 5'3 and my inseam is either 75.5cm or 76.5cm, I can't quite remember which. The Gunnar was designed for 26 inch wheels and because of certain fitting issues my reach is shorter than might be assumed.
Hopefully this information will help!

I'm sorry to see that you're having to sell your Gunnar, Catrin, but I totally understand. If I were living in a permanent location with a garage, I would certainly consider it. Since I bought your Jamis MTB, which fits me very well, I feel sure it would work for me. I hope you find a buyer very soon and don't have to break her up for parts!

She is small, she could live in the back of your car :-) All joking aside, thanks for your good thoughts. I am giving it until the end of July before I pay me LBS to take her apart and list them on eBay. The full bike will be listed on eBay by the 15th if it isn't sold by then. She is also listed on Pink Bikes, Craigslist, and the local Bike Trader.

If only! We can only take four of our six bikes with us as it is. The MTBs (our Jamis near-twins) are living at my mother's this summer, and we have our Trek roadies and Bike Fridays (for utility rides) with us. I feel sure you'll find a buyer, though -- she is a beaut, and a lot of women like a more upright position!

Bumpety-bump-bump - the Gunnar is going to be listed on eBay tonight or tomorrow but the price here is still good for TE members, still hoping I won't have to sell her for parts.

Bump :) I am posting this on eBay tonight, and won't bump this post again until I sell it. As it is a true full custom bike it HAS no size, but if it were a Long Haul Trucker it would likely be close to a 48....if they HAD one at all, or one with 26 inch wheels.

07-12-2014, 03:33 PM
Crossing fingers for you, Catrin!
If it is close to a 48, it likely would have been a bit too large for me after all, even though your Jamis fit me fine. The road bikes I've had that fit me best range from 44.5 to 47 cm, so it's highly possible a 48 might just be a bit long in the top tube.
Keep us posted!

It isn't any stock size, that is why I provided all of the dimensions above. It has a just a little shorter reach than the Jamis, if my memory is correct. It is meant for an upright riding position + flat bars so I don't know that it really compares with a bike with drop bars - which is how I define a road bike. A 48 for a LHT, if such a thing existed (it doesn't), probably would have a longer TT than what the Gunnar has. I was just trying to related it to something, and I probably shouldn't do that. My fitter/builder said I should just let the dimensions speak for themselves.

Yes, that makes sense...you're right that custom doesn't necessarily relate to anything stock. Depending on the seat tube angle, the reach to the handlebars is going to vary anyway...and since it has flat bars, the reach would be shorter than with the same TT length and drop bars.
I just really hope you sell it. It's a beautiful bike -- I know because I saw it in person! :)

Catrin, I found your listing on Ebay -- NICE. Someone is going to get an amazing bike for an incredibly reasonable price. I did wonder why your shipping cost is so low, though. It's always cost me over $100 to ship a bike. I don't want you to lose money on shipping!
(BTW: Looking at the geometry more closely, I now think the reach would be fine for me, but the standover is actually a little higher than I would want. My Trek is slightly lower than that and is as high as I'd want to go. I had a road bike previously where the top tube touched my crotch when standing over it, and that was really not ideal. Your Gunnar would as well, so your legs are longer than mine, obviously.)
Good luck!

That shipping price is only to MY zip code...it will vary based on shipping location. I am thinking about raising the price a bit to cover the packing charges but I might just eat that. If it sells locally then there won't BE any packing charges.

I do have long legs :-) I would take a larger size bike if I could tolerate more weight on my hands. There is a very good reason why the Jamis had such a TALL seatpost when you bought it, that wasn't stock.
I decided to charge a fixed shipping cost of $100, that should cover enough of both packing and shipping that I won't complain if it goes over. I really struggled with the opening bid. I didn't want to put it TOO high, but I also didn't want to set it too low either. I DO have two watchers, so hopefully some interest is developing. It is worth something to me to not have to sell her for parts!

Good -- I'm glad you set a fixed shipping rate. That makes sense since you are in the middle of the country. I used to sell on ebay a lot, and living in NC, I got burned several times selling expensive items with fixed rates if the buyer ended up being on the west coast. In the middle of the country, it's far easier for a fixed shipping rate to come out fair. The original shipping rate I saw for your auction was $27.50, and that was to my (old) zip of 66208 (Prairie Village, KS), so even though that's fairly close to Indy, that rate is way too small for an item of that size. I am sure you would have eaten a lot of the shipping charge in that case!
Interestingly, I ended up raising the seatpost on the Jamis pretty high myself, so I am glad you got the taller one. My legs aren't particularly short for my height, but I am shorter than you. I used to be 5'2", but at my last dr. appointment, she measured me at 5'1.5", so I am probably shrinking. My "cycling inseam" is around 28.5", but since MTBs have lower top tubes, I was able to stand over the Jamis just fine. Glad of that! :)

That makes more sense. It cost me around $75-100 to ship each of my bikes (practically) cross-country (the Charge was really expensive!), and I packed all three myself, so that expense wasn't in there.
I'm a little sad for you that you have to sell her, but I hope she goes to a wonderful new home!

I appreciate the input. My LBS will charge between $50-$60 to pack and deliver it to UPS (just across the street), so I will still likely have to eat part of the shipping cost, but it shouldn't be too bad. The original shipping cost quoted by eBay was for a 30 lb bike with the box dimensions, I thought it seemed quite low. Thanks again!

Most sellers of bikes on ebay pass any professional packing charges onto the buyer...I have both bought and sold bikes on ebay, and that's been my experience. Hope you don't have to eat too much shipping cost!

I couldn't figure out how to add the additional packing charges. If it doesn't sell this first round I will take a closer look at it the second round.

Often sellers just put in the listing somewhere something like "shipping charges include $50 for professional packing by my LBS" and then adjust the shipping charge accordingly. Hope it works out for you!
