Aloha folks -

My husband and I got into the Ride the Rockies lottery this year and we are both really excited. I'm not a hill climber - AT ALL - and am actually quite freaked out about the 28,000' of climbing at altitude. I'm on Oahu so my training will all be done at sea level and it's going to be, to say the least, very interesting to see what happens to all that training at 6000' and higher!

Anyway, I've applied to be one of the 4-5 featured bloggers during the training and ride. 1st phase is a popularity contest (I hate those!) on social media. If I make the cut with a high vote count, then my 400 word bio will be reviewed by the Denver Post and then they pick the winners.

I'd love to make it past this popularity portion and humbly ask for your vote! Please click the link below.

It SHOULD open a Facebook page from Ride the Rockies with my picture and a caption titled "Stuck at Sea Level". Please LIKE that picture.

I appreciate it quite a bit!

Mahalo and Aloha!

Thanks Muirenn - Descending is actually my main strength. I'm one of those that don't use brakes unless it's necessary for conditions, speed limits or to safely pass during a race. I love going downhill! But understand that they aren't very long downhills here in Hawaii! So these uber long ones in Colorado should be fun!

Plus, my Lynskey Pro Cross has disc brakes on it and boy oh boy oh boy are those nice on the downhills. Such a difference.
And I've got an 11-32 on the back of the bike with a compact up front so I'm geared as best as I can on this bike - without having to Franken-bike it. Still nervous though. I have no idea what is going to happen once we get going at 6000' and have to climb 7000' the first day!

for a good training ride you could take the ferry to Maui and ride up Haleakala :)

If we had a ferry I would totally do it! But the cost to fly over and ship my bike is just too much. :-( We are considering doing the Pedal to the Meadow ride on Kauai though!

No more ferry I guess, that's too bad. It's been 6 years since i was in Hawaii though. Haleakala is a great ride!
