Oh gosh, can't remember last time I went to the movies. Most are not my interest. All the shoot'em up, alien invasion, murder and mayhem just are not of my interest. Nor all the rude behavior as comedy movies...

I've had several freebie tickets for years, part of Christmas gift from my employer when I worked eons ago. Tickets are yellowing and bit fraying on the edges but it had no expiration date. Das Gut!!

So today, we went to a matinee of "Savings Mr. Banks". I liked it. For a change, out of Hollywood, a movie without blood, gore, shoot'em up, special effect. It was refreshing. I wish they would make more movies like this. Storyline is far from factual but I liked the movie.

Something for me to think of my relationship with my parents. As they say, you can't choose your family.

just my rambling...

Sounds like you've been choosing the wrong movies!! Glad you found one you liked.

I'm actually planning to pass on that one. Last one we saw together was "American Hustle," which it sounds like you probably wouldn't enjoy either, but I thought it was just great. From what I've read after seeing the movie, the story was actually *more* true than what I thought it would be when I was watching it.

Plus ... here's that "age" thing again :p ... the soundtrack just sucked me right in.

I've been wanting to see that. Mary Poppins is my favorite Disney movie.

The last movie I saw in the theater was Tombstone...until December when I ended up at Ender's Game. I had read the book and loved it so I went with my partner's son when we were visiting in Massachusetts in November. I don't like all the graphic violence either. My rule has been "If i wouldn't watch it happening in my living room, I don't want to watch it on the screen"

.... and I just can't wait for "August: Osage County." Actually it's opening here this weekend.

Another "can't choose your family," from the trailers (or more, reconciling the family you chose with the one you didn't), though I'm not sure I'd want them in my living room!!! :D

I've been wanting to see that. Mary Poppins is my favorite Disney movie.

The movie isn't much about Mary Poppins but rather the ghost that haunts PL Travers, the author of Mary Poppins, and how Walt and his team are flummoxed by Ms. Travers personality. Yes she was quite a pill and how her actions were dictated by her memory of her childhood. Lots of flash back to her childhood in Australia. "Saving Mr. Banks" refers to her father. You will find out his severe character flaws and the daughter who saw the perfect father only to come to realization of his failing.

I always loved Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. All the actors in the movie were wonderful.

Yeah, I knew that, but Mary Poppins is what sparked my interest in the movie.

As we were walking out my friend said “what a cage match feast of dysfunction”….….the movie made me want to hug my mother :)

Great acting by Streep!!!!

I can't remember the whole name of it, but the Walter Mitty movie with Ben Stiller is an excellent movie suitable for the family.
