The Tour de Madison looks interesting -- I don't know yet what my schedule will be in mid-May, but I will keep it in mind.

The Oxon Hill Club has scheduled the Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride on May 31, 2014 and registration is now open.

This year's ride will feature a new location for the start/finish/post-ride picnic. Patuxent River Park, which formerly was the first rest stop, will now be the start/finish. Riders will still be able to visit old start/finish location, Merle Wildlife Sanctuary, as a rest stop.

Also in rural southern Maryland, the Ride to End Hunger in Calvert County is scheduled for April 26, 2014. This will be my first big ride of the year.

Bike Virginia goes from the Richmond area to Williamsburg this year, through amazing Civil War sites. It's also pretty flat. June 20-25.

Cap2Cap between Williamsburg and Richmond is May 10.

At the end of September, there will be the Heart of Virginia near Richmond and the Northern Neck RiverRide. They are usually both on the last weekend of September, so folks have to choose.

October is the Richmond Grand Fondo.

And for race fans, the US Collegiate Cycling Championships will be in Richmond in May...and start making your plans now for the UCI world Championship Road Racing (all the pros) in Richmond in September 2015. It's only the second time the race has been held in the US. The first time was in 1986 in Colorado Springs. It's going to be a Very Big Deal.

The Oxon Hill club has created the webpage for regional events in 2014. Many rides will be added to this page -- it's a great resource for rides in Maryland, DC, Viriginia and nearby states.

I'll be helping out at the Riverside rest stop this year.

Also, I wanted to mention that I did the Firefighter 50 ride in Westminster, MD this past Sunday. This ride raises money for the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department. It was a long drive for me to get there, but I loved the route and the people were all so friendly. I will try to go back again next year. http://www.firefighter50.com/
