Has anyone tried the Falcon X saddle from Terry?
http://www.terrybicycles.com/detail.html?c=Saddles&sc=Women%27s+Best+All-Around&item_no=2146800
I'm a bit of a Terry fan. I've tried their liberator Gel, didn't like the gel, so I've been using the Butterfly now and I'm fairly happy with it, but it isn't "quite there" for long rides. My soft bits just get sore after awhile, and the drops just make it worse. I just tried the Fizik Airone, and it was hugely painful down the center (too narrow I think?). A real dissapointment because I found a white and silver one that looked stunning with my bike's silver and white paint job. :( I soo wanted this to be the one after the good reviews I read.
I was looking at the Selle SMP Strike, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to go that different yet...that and omg it must be huge at almost 400g! :) THe man above has given me wide thighs from birth and I always seem to rub badly on bulky saddles.
THe Falcon X seemed to take some of the idea from the Strike (bigger channel and perch, slighly down nose) and I was wondering if anyone has given this a try.
I was thinking of going with this or the Zero. Any suggestions welcome! I really hope I can find something that doesn't leave me too raw after 40+ miles. The quest continues!

Haven't tried it, but it looks to be worth a try!! Let us know what you think!

Haven't tried it either, but it's nice to see Terry is making a saddle with a bigger cutout. Should help a lot.:)
I put it on the trainer tonight. Roughly the same width and overall look off the butterfly, little bit slimmer overall and the cutout is a bit further back and wider.
On the trainer the soft areas don't feel much pressure at all! My sit bones feel more though. Could be that there seems to be a bit less padding in the back. I'll see tomorrow if my bones accept it on the road or not. I might have to dial it in a bit, but it seems promising!
The neat/weird/scary thing is the rails!! They are a combo carbon/steel alloy thing and they look like they will break easily. The whole saddle flexes under the weight (the rails bend under hand pressure). I'm hoping that this will give a smoother ride and won't leave me biking home standing up!!

Sounds promising! Definitely keep us posted - I am always looking for a new saddle to try. Even though the one I have now is comfortable (Specialized Avatar 155), I keep thinking there's one out there that might be even more comfortable!

I laughed when I read this. My current saddle is pretty comfy too but Im always thinking the same as you, there could be one out there even better - much to the horror of my husband.:D

Yes, saddles could become a complusion, but I'm very happy with my most recent purchase... I think I'm good for a while now. :)

Another compulsive saddle purchaser here! I even bought one of those that is sorta round--no pointy front--at Bike Expo. It was only $30, and I thought I'd give it a try. I've spent $30 on lots stupider stuff than that! If it's great, I'll let y'all know. I'm hoping to finally get on the road tomorrow for a bit.

That odd saddle that I got at Bike Expo is called THE SEAT. I put it on my bicycle and cannot get it to go back far enough to be correct for my knees. So I'll be offering it around to people here in town. I don't know if it's comfortable or not! I'm still trying to decide between the Jett and Liberator Ti Race that I have. I'm not sure either is the answer. I really like the looks of that red Selle that TE has the Lady Gel Flow. Any thoughts on that one? I've also been looking at the new Terry Zero. So much confusion. I just wish my hynie could speak up and say which one is best for it!!!

I now have the Falcon X - it is a little less padded than the one I was using but the cut out is wider which is great, I have only used it on the trainer so far, but this weekend s/b in the 70's so road watch out, I will get a better feel for it then.
Every saddle I have tried on the trainer after about 40 min or so I get numb, I suppose b/c you don't really have to stand up on the trainer is the reason.

I'm anxiously awaiting a road review of this saddle. I can't seem to find it locally so I don't want to waste a mail order run.
I currently have a Selle San Marco Atena but I'm interested in trying one of these split saddles.

I'm curious about this one too. My issue is that the butterfly was too wide thru the nose, and the fly was much better, but the cut out on the men's wasn't lined up right with my bits.

I finally go to ride outside on my Falcon, love it!!!! The cut out is just right not as much cushion as my Velo but I didn't find it uncomfortable. ONly thing I did seem to have happen is that the nose kept grabbing my shorts when I got on the saddle which is weird b/c it is just a little shorter than my Velo which I don't remember it doing that.
I rode 33.5 miles Sat. and had minimal discomfort, mainly my butt just isn't used to that long of a ride yet:p
I think tho I may have to change to my velo for centuries! to keep the cheeks happy:D

Great news! Give it a few rides. After one ride with my Selle SMP I was sure my hiney was going to be very unhappy even though the girly bits were great. But after a couple more rides, everything was good. I still have some tushie soreness, but only on long rides, which I'm not doing every week, so I know I just need to keep toughening up that part.

Yes, that's it, but mine is the cheaper, TRK Lady model, which they don't seem to have on their site. I got mine off ebay at masherz.com's store, and Bikemania.biz carries it, as well. Boulderbliss got hers from a UK seller for a great price, but I'm not sure who.
I did the Tri-county Hill Hopper with this saddle. The cut out really does it's job. I had no pain in the soft bits. The back does have a bit less padding for the sit bones than I'd like but that wasn't the problem for me.
However, the saddle nearly made me cry near the end of the 30 mile ride. Instead of having pressure on the soft bits in the center, I had more pressure on the outer area where the cutout hole ends and the sides of the cutout begin. It musta been pushing up on my nerves in that area. I don't know if I was "falling into" the cutout or what that put so much pressure on the insides of my pelvis. Hard to explain! After that ride I was so sore I took a few days off which turned into a few weeks :(
I haven't had time to play with it much since then. I've put my old butterfly back on for the long rides, eventhough it gives me some discomfort in the center I don't get the raw pain I had with the Falcon.
I Haven't given up on trying to dial it in. The first 15 miles were glorious, just hasn't worked for me so far.
And yes.... saddles are totally my compulsion. Nothing is too good for my bum! :)

I rode my new Falcon X on a 74 mile ride on Saturday. I was anxious about it, but my fears were unfounded. I could go to the bathroom and (in Nancy's words) there were no razor blades! It's not as squishy on the sit-bones as some, but I think I've got a winner here. I've always had a problem with the soft tissue area, but on Sat. I had none! Yahoo!

I purchased my fourth Terry saddle, a Falcon X, a couple of weeks ago. I have a Terry Liberator on my mountain bike, a Terry Butterfly on one road bike, and a until it was replaced with the Falcon, a Terry Firefly (women's) on my main road bike. Previous to the Firefly, I had an Avocet O2, but it made me burn down the center of my crotch. The Firefly was too wide in the nose and gave me icky saddle sores and even a cyst in the crease at the top inside of one of my legs. The Falcon X is significantly narrower in both the nose and the rear section than other Terry saddles. It also has noticeably less padding. It's not as immediately comfortable as the Butterfly, but after four times out on it, I've gotten used to it and actually like that it is firmer than the Butterfly. If your hips are wider than average, however, you may find your cheeks hanging off the sides. I ride ~120 mi/week, mainly on a Kestrel Talon, and am 5' 3" and 135 lbs.

Just tried the falcon yesterday on my cyclocross bike. At first seemed hard as a rock, but I'm sticking with it for now. Def. is narrower than the butterfly, and very light on the frontal pressure.
The cut out is so big, you get a nice breeze in yer bits!:)

Rode the Falcon X on my first century. A little sore at the end, but not as bad as I've been on 20 mile rides with uncomfortable saddles. I think it's a keeper. My right shoulder hurt way more than my bottom!

I can't seem to get the tilt quite right on this saddle. Today rode about 20 miles, changed it like 4 times and was in a lot of pain.
I've gotten past the hardness of the rear, but after getting tired started to feel terrible pressure on the vagina area.
It seems to be that in order for it to work, it has to be set so it LOOKs like its downward a bit but its reallly not.
also, seems to be different in the seatpost height.
I dont know, I thought I was happy with it, but now I'm wondering.
Anyway, aside from that, just had a great ride!

I took my new Falcon X out for a short 20 miler yesterday, and while the sit bone area felt good, I think my girly bits were a little crushed. I'm going to try to tip the nose down a little more today and go for another 20 miler and see how it feels. I do like the firmness (I don't sink down into the saddle), as well as the narrow nose. Overall though, I'm not sure it feels all that much different than my Selle Italia Lady Gel; I'll have to pay more attention or do some consecutive test rides.
I have a San Marco Aspide Glamour Arrowhead arriving tomorrow... about to go into saddle overload!

Last Saturday I did a 55 mile ride on the Falcon X. After a bathroom stop, I noticed a bit of discomfort in the soft tissue area. At the next rest stop, I sorta pinched or squeezed "everything" together before pulling up my shorts. It made a difference--no discomfort at all. Maybe y'all already do this, but it was a new stategy for me. Now I'm doing "the pinch" all the time. If you've already got your shorts up, just reach inside and pinch!
Any thoughts on this????

gah, this is really touchy stuff
after i posted that guys could sling all their stuff to one side or the other
i discovered that i could sort of do the same thing too.
but pinching ? never thought of that.

Pinching! Maybe the Falcon inspired that, because I found myself "shifting" things around a bit too these last two rides I did with the Falcon. It did seem to help, if only temporarily. I did get it positioned so my sit bones are where they should be though.
If the San Marco Glamour doesn't work out (should arrive today), I fear I'm going to have to decide between 1.my girly bits being sore/numb with the Falcon or my old Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow, or 2. "crease" chafage with the Selle SMP Strike.

Hi,
Is anyone looking to sell a Terry Falcon X? I really want to give it a try as a narrower-in-the-nose alternative to my Terry Liberator. If yes, please PM me.
Thanks, Nicole

I had the same problem a Kyna with the Sella SMP. I got sore where the saddle pressed on the inside of my thighs rather than my girly bits.
It's funny that a lot of you are looking at the Falcon X. I just found it on the Terry web site last night. I joined the forum to ask about the saddle for triathlons. I'll let you know what they say when they reply.

I bought one from ebay this week to replace my terry zero (too much padding). I'll let you all know how it is once I get some miles on it.

I decided to try the Terry Liberator Ti Race saddle instead. So far I am liking it. Compared to the Liberator it's been more comfortable on my girly parts and equally comfortable everywhere else. Two minor complaints: the leather is more slippery than what I'm used to so it's a little harder to stay in the "sweet spot" (I'm assuming that'll improve as the leather gets broken in); I like the narrower nose, but I didn't really need it to be longer.

The reply that I got on the Terry Bicycle forum when I asked about the Falcon X for triathlons was instead a recommendation for the men's Tri Fly Gel. (This was from their saddle guru.) She said that it's got basically the same geometry as the Firefly but, with the gel, it's got a softer nose.

I did 57 miles on Saturday and the Falcon felt much better than the other saddles I've used. No chafing at all- didn't even irritate the groin cyst that the padding on the zero and butterfly had given me. Seat bones were sore, but I figure that's normal when going from very padded saddles to a pretty minimal one like the falcon. For the first time in the 1500 miles I've had my bike, I felt like I could just sit & relax instead of fidgeting to try to keep everything feeling right.
