I am looking for a decent used road bike, looking at a Trek Navigator 300, any thoughts? They are asking 200 used. I am short, need 141/2 frame which this is,but curious if any of you have experience with this type of bike and whether or not you enjoy. At this time a weekend rider, mostly 25 to 40 miles on a Saturday or Sunday.

Well, that's a hybrid/"comfort" bike, not a road bike. I have a 200, and just from a glance at the specs, it looks pretty similar.

It's a fine bike for errands, short commutes, tooling around town. I have pretty much abused mine, barely do any maintenance at all, ride it in sand and heavy rain, and it's been bulletproof, though my very short trips mean there aren't a lot of miles on it. I'm not sure I'd want to do 40 miles on it in a day, but then again, it doesn't fit me terribly well, either. Probably the most I've gone on it in a day has been 20-25. Once I got rid of the perfectly horrible stock saddle, it's fine for that distance. But it's very heavy, has fat rims and tires, and has that upright riding position, so whatever riding you do on it will be a lot slower than you'd do on a road bike.

How well does the bike fit you? What kind of condition is it in? Do you ride with other people, and if so, are they on road bikes? What kind of surfaces do you usually ride on?

By any chance, do you live anywhere near California, or more specifically, near the Bay Area?

I saw this bike (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/bik/4129339956.html) come up on craigslist, and this is what I have (I think mine is the model year prior). The ad says it weighs 24.5 lbs but that doesn't sound right. I'm fairly certain mine is lighter. I haven't seen many Terry Trixie's come available and definitely very few in this size. I purchased mine from someone on the East Coast and had it shipped out to California. If you live anywhere near there, I'd check it out.

I pinged a cycling friend of mine who lives in the Rochester area, and she told me that the best bike shop for fit in Rochester is Pedallers (http://www.pedallers.com/).
She said if anyone could help you in town it would be him. So you might check with them also.
