Hi, I am apart of a product development apparel class at Colorado State University and we are creating a custom cycling apparel line. If you are between the ages of 18-40 and would be willing to take a short survey (20 ?s) we would appreciate your help!

What's with the age limits?

I was wondering the same thing!

My first question as well. I'm 55 and know quite a few avid cyclists who are well into their 70s.

Me, too.
Maybe college students don't get this.

I had a quick look at the survey and found it poorly laid out. It left out a lot of categories of cyclist when asking people what sort they were. And the obsession with fashion does suggest that this was created by college student/s who don't actually know many people who ride bikes.

Cycling is an expensive hobby and most cyclists with any cash to spend are probably over 40 LOL. Think less about fashion and more like spanx and you are tawking. I spend more on cycling and fitness clothing than I do on my regular wardrobe though.

Hit and run posters , why pay any attention to them at all?

WOW! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is perturbed by the age limits! I guess it's a good thing that the bike industry doesn't have the same parameters HA! Truthfully, who cares how old you are ?

I thought the target demographic for pretty much everything actually ended a little bit younger, like early 30s, though. So it made sense to me for a marketing class. Not that I would bother with the hit-and-run poster even if I were 15 years younger, like Irulan said.

What do you suppose it says about me that I had to look up what a peplum is to even know if it would be desirable on cycling gear...... ( not that it matters, as I am also too old)

First lesson in marketing: know your audience.

Well, if they're college students, I wouldn't expect them to be experts in market research. That's why they're learning about it in school.

A good take-away from this would be to use loose parameters for the research and let the results determine the market demographics, rather than defining the demographics before doing the research.

I had to look up "peplum" too. :D

As NYbiker said, it's a class. They aren't experts; they are learning.

I know what a peplum is, and yes I would consider a garment with one. However, I did not take the survey since I'm over 40.

Here's a great commuting cycling rainjacket that I saw in London in June: http://www.ananichoola.co.uk/syr/cr-13-2401/

I didn't buy it, but I almost did.

Hopefully the student read these responses and learned from them.

I didn't take the survey --I suspect I'm even older than tulip.:D

I've sewed 1-2 tops (non-cycling) with a slight pepulum.

For a cycling jacket, for myself, I wouldn't buy a jacket with a peplum because I just don't want air blowing up the back of me while cycling at a moderate clip. A cycling jacket is meant (to me) to be practical.

But yes, I would wear a peplum for fashion on a non-cycling jacket.

I think peplum's are an awkward garment cut because not all women would feel comfortable with a peplum, depending on whether or not they are happy with their body shape.

I like peplums, but they have to be cut a certain way, without too much flair and poofiness. I had a "fancier" dress, I bought, maybe 25 years ago, when I still lived in AZ. It was pink, silky material, with a brocade pattern and a peplum. I had that dress for at least ten years. My younger son always would beg me to "wear the pink dress," as he liked to flick and bounce the peplum!
