I don't want to go clipless or clip. I am apprehensive. As well as riding numerous miles by myself, I also ride with my SO who stops and starts very suddenly, or he will simply move on the trail funny. Please do not tell me not to ride with him. I don't have much choice; he is 82 years old and wants to go riding with me. I don't want him to ride alone. I have explained to him many times about trail etiquette and road rules. He says, "I am not hurting anything." At least I get him to move off the trail now when he stops! (With a lot of yelling, though)
I have a road bike and want to use plain platform pedals. Does anyone have any opinions? I road this morning with a group and because the roads were wet from the rain, my feet kept slipping off the pedals. it was nothing I couldn't control but it was so annoying. I couldn't go as fast because this.
The pedals I am considering are below: I know they are for mountain bikes, but I don't know what else to get.
WELLGO Wellgo Mg 1 Magnesium Platform Pedal 9/16'' in black if I can get them http://www.amazon.com/WELLGO-Wellgo-Magnesium-Platform-Pedal/dp/B006WRW7QA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379283818&sr=8-1&keywords=Fort%C3%A9+Convert+Platform+Pedals

Thanks for any advice!!!

No advice on the pedals, but how about asking your SO to follow you rather than the reverse? There are people I absolutely will not draft for love or money, and your SO sounds like one of them ...

I have heard great things about Nukeproof Electrons, they go for around 60$.

I know but . . . as usual a "but" . . . I need to watch for him. I tried to ride in front of him, but it is really hard for me to keep looking back over my shoulder and feel safe. I am so scared something might happen that I want to be behind him. I've looked at all kinds of mirrors for the road bike so I could ride in front. I tried to make a helmet mirror work on my old helmet with no luck. I have a new helmet and I think I can clip a helmet mirror in it so I might try that again. We also bought a mirror that fits in the road bike handlebar where the end plug is. Every time I move I knock it out of focus so that doesn't work either.
Today he had to stop to rest several times and if I hadn't been behind him, I would never have known he stopped. He has an e-assist bicycle but because of the terrain combined with the person we were following it wasn't as efficient as possible. I think the person we were behind had even had worse skills than my SO! I couldn't even ride behind him very well. He just rode "weird." We passed him a couple of times but for some reason he would always wind up in front of us again. I almost crashed into him a couple of times. (As you might have inferred, I didn't enjoy the group ride with either of them. When it is only my SO and me we do much better.)

Wow, I found some Nukeproof Electrons pedals in Purple! I wonder if they would match new bike?

I think I found a good on Nukeproof Electrons here. What do you think? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/nukeproof-electron-flat-pedals-2013/rp-prod85858?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Shopping&utm_name=UnitedStates&gclid=CMvx4f3XzrkCFZBaMgodfAQAYA
Of course these purple ones if they match my bike would be really cool! http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cycling-/7294/i.html?_nkw=nukeproof+pedals

The CRC deal is pretty good, I'm pretty sure I'll get a pair for myself as well. As for those purple pedals, they aren't Nukeproof pedals. I'm not sure how good they are, but I suggest going for black or white Nukeproofs. They are very popular among trail riders here due to their price, weight, thin profile and grip. If you'd prefer purple flats to go with your bike, I'm sure we can find you something else just as reputable :)

Can those be used on road bikes as well or not? If not, what would be the best flat ones to buy for road?

I like the platform pedals with the little steel pins sticking out of them. They came with my commuting bike when I bought it 4 years ago and it only took one chilly ride in warm hiking boots to convince me. Now I've put them on my touring bike as I use it around town a lot. The grip is almost as good as SPD, the wider platform supports my feet a lot better, and I can use any soft soled shoe on them.

Naw, I thought purple would be nice, but then it could clash. I think I will order those nuke pedals today. Hopefully they will get here before it rains again.
Speaking of rain, let's all say a prayer for the people in Colorado who most likely have lost everything. I doubt home owners' insurance covers their losses. You have to have flood insurance. How many people would have flood insurance in the mountains???

I am still looking at pedals. I am looking at these: Any advice. I am tired of my feet slipping of the pedals but because I am so inept at climbing hills, I don't want to go clipless yet

Everyday I have a new bicycle adventure with my SO. I have asked him to help me adjust the seat height and length. He kept saying it was fine and I would get used to the cramped and hurting knees. Well three miles of riding (we'd planned 12) I told him I was going home because I didn't want too ride the bike anymore. Well, he adjusted what I needed him to. But he finished it off that we are taking to the dealer and have them fit me. Well, duh, that should have been right off the bat.
The once we got moving I had to tell him he must tell me when is stopping or passing me. There was some of the road; thank goodness I saw him out of my mirror and didn't crash into him.

Of those, I like the look of the second and last ones the best.
I have a set of the Forte pedals for my CX bike for when I took it on MTB trails, but I haven't really ridden on them very much.

It seems I scratched up my leg using the "pin" pedals I have on my new hybrid. I read a review that says I am on my way to tearing up my legs should I continue to use these. I still love the pedals anyway and I am still trying to figure out what to put on my road bike. I don't want clipless or straps.
While I researching the pedals I came across the blog. I think it is great. There are other blogs on the site which are enjoyable to read as well.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Shimano PD-MX30 platform pedals! They have pins, but they aren't so sharp that your leg will get torn up, but I find I can still get a very good pull with them.

I think there's a learning curve with BMX-style pedals and trying to keep yourself from shredding your legs. I know Catrin has used similar pedals. Hopefully she'll see this and weigh in.

Hi - I am actually looking on TE forums for info about saddles, but saw your post and thought I'd give you my 2 cents' worth. I like Perfomance's Forte Campus pedal. They are a little heavy, but really inexpensive and not spiky. I'm a complete klutz and I haven't ripped my leg up with these.
When I got my road bike, I was so afraid to clip into pedals, I wanted platform pedals, so I got these. They are a platform on one side and SPD (mountain bike clips) on the other - the clip is pretty flat and if you put your regular shoe on it you could still pedal without slipping off. I rode on these with running shoes before I got clip-in shoes. I still keep these pedals on my winter bike because I like them on rainy days when I'm not sure I'll get clipped in at a traffic intersection (an aside - I finally got "regular" road shoes and cleats for my summer bike after my first century and the most excruciating foot pain from the tiny pressure point of the SPD cleat)
Safe riding! :-)
