For those of you out there with low back pain that gets worse with jarring or compression type stresses (disc buldges, spondylolithesis for eg) there's a new seat post out there that could help.

The Cirrus Cycles Body Float. (http://www.cirruscycles.com/collections/all)

I had some exposure to this seat post at a Physical Therapy specific Bike fitting/injury class this last weekend. It's pretty slick. It's also pretty spendy. Right now they are only making them as they are ordered as one-offs. I don't know what the wait is on one of these.

One of my ~70 year old riding buddies put on one of those Thudbusters when he did the Great Divide a couple of years ago. He's been really happy with it. But then, he'd never ridden a mountain bike before he decided to do the Divide.

I have not ridden the Thudbuster but the guy that showed me this seatpost has used both and is very experienced in terms of equipment and physical issues. His opinion was that while the Thudbuster was a good option, the Cirrus Post was far superior. His reasoning was that the saddle was mechanically isolated from the bumps by the float mechanism.

I have a Thudbuster on our tandem. As a stoker, you often can't see bumps. Captains will call them out of course. :) But you still feel them, just like you do with suspension on a mountain bike, lessened but still there.
