Yesterday was hot, today is going to be hotter. I haven't be able to get out in the early am, primarily because my favorite early morning route has two big hills and I still don't have a front derailleur - you know the story of the cobbler's children that have no shoes...
Any howsss, my good biking buddy started harassing me about mid afternoon yesterday and finally convinced me to venture out in the 100 degree heat for a noodle ride and we had a blast! We rode for about 1 1/2 hours but I bet we didn't cover more than 15 miles, we just wandered, through neighborhoods with trees, down to the river to ride the MUP - on the shady side and various other goofy spots. We didn't ride fast and just enjoyed chatting. Even stopped a few times in the shade to watch the surf boarders play in the man made waves on the river. I came home feeling much better, of course soaked with sweat like I had been climbing a giant hill w/ fully loaded panniers but that was okay as well.

I highly recommend a noddle ride when the heat starts to get to you and the thought of doing the same old mundane bike ride is over the top.

DH and I are planning to do something like this tonight. I haven't been on my CX bike in ages (in large part because we swapped out my clipless pedals for flats and lowered the saddle so DS could ride, but he's at camp right now). We're going to go zip around on pretty gravel roads nearby.

Heat or not I decided on a ride tonight. It was hot but I pedaled easy and enjoyed the ride, the sights, sounds and smells. It turned out to be a lovely ride. Thanks for the encouragement to ride in this heat wave Sky King.
