Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can inspire me for riding snacks that are gluten free. I am more than happy to make them myself, so recipes would be great ;). I tend to do the banana/apple/orange/almonds thing mostly but also make these balls of yumminess (they sit in jersey pockets nicely) http://3pastriesaday.wordpress.com/2013/02/07/almond-joy-balls/ and these clusters http://3pastriesaday.wordpress.com/2012/10/10/figgy-chocolate-granola-clusters/ (same blog, but her food is great - no, I have no association with it). Any hints, tips and recipes would be much appreciated

don't have any recipes and am not gluten intolerant but have steered several gluten intolerant biking friends to a commercial product found in grocery store health food aisle. Kind Bars are excellent for riding- sturdy enough to stand up to repeated trips in a hot sweaty jersey pocket and several flavors are chocolate free so they don't get all messy and nasty in said hot sweaty pocket.

For me I use a combination of jerky, macadamia nuts and dried cherries. It works pretty well! There are also recipes online for your own Larabars - those are the only commercial bars I will consider and I don't get those very often.

Someone posted a recipe a while back for butternut squash blondies. Those were great. Can't access the recipe at the moment but it should be around here somewhere.

I have recently become a big fan of Bonk Breaker bars. They come in a variety of flavors. I really like the bonk Breaker fig bars for longer rides

Do you just keep those almond joy balls loose in your pocket? I'd be afraid of the chocolate melting, but it might be worth it - they look good! And I like the name of the blog ;)

Oooh thanks everyone! I'll go shopping on the weekend. With the chocolate in the almond balls - I use baking chips - they don't melt (as opposed the the baking melts which do - learnt the hard way there - whoops!)

I just saw an ad for Picky Bars (http://pickybars.com/), which are gluten, soy and dairy free. You know what I know, now. The ingredients list looks pretty good to me, though I'm suspicious of rice protein that isn't organic or hexane free. But, considering they mention that pumpkin seeds are good for both "men and girls," I might refrain.

DH just switched to Kind Bars. He's not gluten intolerant, but he likes them. I can't eat them, as they are full of peanuts. I am sticking with Lara Bars, although they are smaller than the Lunas I've been using. I'm not gluten intolerant, either, but just looking for a bar that has a lot of protein.
Men and girls ? But, I love pumpkin seeds. Good ingredient for making veggie burgers.

I think I need to find a USA food store - I live in country Australia, so maybe my next trip to the city will be hunting down some sacks :)
I like Organic Food Bar brand. "Protein"...22g protein and 18g sugar OR same brand "Active Greens" 11g protein and 24g sugar.
They took a little getting used to but can become very addictive. Work great on rides.
