Talk about WOW! Thank you all so very much for all the good wishes and kind thoughts. My special thanks to Ann for posting all of the updates. And, Cindy the flowers were beautiful, and your trips to the hospital were much appreciated.
I have read the E-Mails and must say that I have never been involved with a group of people who have acted so kindly towards a person they have ever met. I truly feel blessed. Thank you.
AND WEAR YOUR HELMETS! Rick just showed me what is left of my old helmet, and I am very glad it was on my head when I went down. It (the helmet) really is trashed, but my head is in one piece.
I still use the crutches. Our dog isn't sure whether to chew on them on get out of the way. There's no place live home! It will all work out. I have some physical therepy group coming to the house next week to see how I'm doing and to point out dangers within our house. Biker on your left? I know it will be a while before I can bike again, but everyday things seem to improve.
I still can't believe I was hosipalized for almost three weeks. And, I was so lucky! I was with people who were on the job and saw to it that the necessary information got to the ambulance staff and that I was taken care of. This and the fact that my husand was immediately notified were all so important. Thank you! Bless you all. If I can ever return the favor, I'm there. I just hope that time never comes.
Have a great Cinderella Ride! Be safe and have fun.
Most sincerely,
Helga

I am so glad to hear you're home. Healing, sleeping, everything, is just so much better. You sound in good spirits. I can still remember the smack of my helmet on the pavement in my one and only road crash.
Keep us updated. I'd been looking forward to meeting you when I came down for the Benicia ride, but you'll be there with us in spirit.

Hey Helga! SO glad to see you posting again and to know that you're back home. Our bible study group got together last night and they were all asking me how you were doing. I was so happy to be able to tell them that you went home on Friday. I hope you are more comfortable and peaceful at home. I can't imagine 3 weeks in the hospital!
You're an amazing lady and I look forward to riding with you again sometime. Hang in there!

Welcome home Helga! Keep working that rehab therapy! You'll be back on two wheels in NO time!
When I broke my leg a few years ago I had to have a rod put down my left femur. I remember being totally devastated. My friend gave me the best piece of advice. She said "you can lay around and mope about it and you'll be better in 6 mos to a year. Or you can work your therapy like your training for a race and you'll be back out there in 6 months. It's all about ATTITUDE".. Well I took that advice and wouldn't you know it- but I was back out there in no time. Even my marathon runner doctor was amazed. When I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2001 (right before 9/11- what timing) I adopted the same attitude and I think it really helped me to endure the regime they had me on. So I guess what I'm trying to say is this.. BE STRONG! You sound like a fighter, and you sound like you have the right attitude already, so keep it up and Give em HELL!!! :D
Take care.
Denise

Denise, do you still have a rod down your femur? whoooaaaa, as my nephew would say. Does this mean you already are an iron-man? Hahahaha! OK, it's not an iron rod. Yet, I am a doof, and could not resist. :p This forum is replete with such strong, brave, funny, wonderful women. Glad to know ya all.

Helga:
I'm so very glad to see that you are home. Hospitals are no fun! and I've never thought they were anywhere to get well! Must feel so good to be in your own house, in your own bed. Enjoy it, rest, and work on your therapy!
All the best!
