Fuzio's in Dublin was good last year, how about that? :)

This provides the phone number for the Dublin location.

I'm looking forward to dinner this year since I'll actually get to ride! WHEEE!

Now if only I can escape the Evil Camera(tm). ;)

Fuzio is fine, any other ideas? I'm thinking it would be nice if we could have a slightly different arrangement as the long table made it hard to converse with every one. Wasn't it kinda loud there? BG having senior moment here!

Anything in downtown Pleasanton?

nothing much to it, just poll for ideas of where to go and make reservations! I take it the one requirement would be full bar. not that I drink anyway.

Actually drinking the night before a ride is NOT a good idea. Alcohol dehydrates you. We should be hydrating ladies! Let's drink AFTER the ride!!!!

So what time will pre-ride carb dinner be? I may also want to catch a benefit in Santa Rosa -- for a peace activist out-of-work after a car accident. Nina Gerber will be singing. But if that's evening I'll just have to send my regrets and a check. Gotta get down to Hayward by evening anyway, plan to spend the nite at Trek420's so as to make it to the Cindy on time. If that's OK with you, Trek?

Oatmeal. But now that I'm on a low-fibre diet, I guess cream of wheat. I can bring my own if it's not something you want on hand. Otherwise, the breakfast of Vikings is bread with cheese and/or jam.

I don't know yet. A friend in Sebastopol is helping set up the benefit, so maybe there. The benefit is for some folks who live out in Bodega, though. Anyways, somewhere in west Sonoma county.

Sounds good! Maybe we can just stay together the whole ride and finish together. I'm slow as molasses in January. I'm so good at getting dropped, I've made it an art form. Just FYI, there are a lot of nice calves in the cycling community out here in CA. :)

So what constitutes slow anyway? DH is does his own ride after we ride together. My fast speed doesn't give him a workout at all.

I'm definately up for the slow but steady. I'm stronger than last year but still not very strong. :/ I'm also on new meds (again - sigh) plus who knows what the nephrologist will put me on by that point. :/

I don't know exactly how you define slow. All I know is I'm always slower than everyone I ride with. Especially on hills. 5 - 8 mph on hills is about my average. I'd say I average anywhere from 12 - 15 mph on the flats without a tail or headwind. Does that help?

:) I think we're about the same speed. I can go a little faster on the flats but not always sustained (depends on how I feel that day). My speed on hills is essentially the same as yours though I know I'm getting faster. It used to be I'd have to stop on overpasses. :o Now I'm able to stand and power through them which definately used to not be the case.

So, I think we'll be able to keep the same pace and encourage each other. :)

Often riders will adorn their helmets with silk flowers or ribbons or other various and sundry frou-frou.

Another popular option has been known to attach a piece of lightweight netting or tule (sp?) to the back of your helmet for that lovely flowing veil effect, one benefit of which is that it makes it seem like you're going faster in photos :D

Tiaras are optional, but are always appreciated. Scepters are somewhat frowned upon for safety concerns, particularly if they were originally cattle prods.

I'd be aiming the javelin at the groups that congregate after every intersection making it impossible to ride in the bike lane. One reason (out of many) that I will not do this ride again.

LOL ! :D Couldn't keep a straight face ! :D

I think getting together after the ride for a recovery beverage is a super idea. There's always a tasty assortment of food-like items in the main building after the ride, and, like snap said, the bar on the other end of the building has been open in the past (we, um, know this from personal experience :o ). If I recall correctly they had soft drinks, as well as a good selection of beer.

Truthfully though, for anyone who hasn't ridden this ride before, this ride probably has the highest percentage of inexperienced group cyclists of all I have ridden. Combine the high volume of riders with the traffic density -- please be very careful!

I know, it has been a whirl wind year! long story kinda short....
sold a house, moved, got married, bought house, moved again, went to hawaii, went to disneyland twice in 3 weeks, dog had major surgery day after christmas, my Dad nearly died and have had my mom live with me for past 5 weeks, working, commuting, dealing with 3 teenagers, cat, dog, trying to get parents house ready to sell, move them 2 hours from where they have lived for 26 years, and try to get miles in in between all the drama!
So I'm back! I'm here! I hope y'all can meet up with us at Casa Orozco in Livermore at around 7pm friday....got a shoulder, I'll cry happy tears! I'm doing well now.. last year sucked like a flat tire 30 miles from no where with out a spare or a patch kit.....~~giggles~~

No offense taken. Remove foot. It's licked clean by now. And you're hardly the only one who's never heard of a low-fibre diet. I tried ordering a special meal for two trans-Atlantic flights. "We have HIGH fibre," they cheerfully respond. Also low SALT (which I need to keep high, thank you very much) three varieties of vegetarian, three different types of Asian plus Halal, Kosher, and maybe a couple others. But LOW fibre? Never heard of it. I'm allowed to cheat now, tho. Makes things easier. Oh, and Trek -- I still hate soft-boiled eggs, so I count those as high fibre now. ;)

Ouch! Well, I don't know my speed when I'm trying for speed. Also don't know my speed after 5-6 weeks of spin classes. But last (also first) time I clocked I was doing 7mph. Me too. But I've found that the HRM can be a motivator. At spin class on "standing climbs" I'm about to get back down in the saddle and recover, then I check the HRM and decide ... æh! I can go up another heartbeat or two, or I can keep it up at this rate for a few more seconds. So now I have a question. Should I wear the HRM on the ride? Or is that dorky?

Yes. Not dorky. :p It probably will actually help you pace yourself. From spin class, you most likely already know your HR comfort zone & limits. So you can use the HRM to know when you need to slow it a bit, or perhaps pick up the pace. I'd wear it if I were you. :)

I lived in London for half of 2001 and many friends came to visit - the only thing we asked was that they bring plenty of Peets.

I think we had enough Peets to last the entire 6 months, between what we "packed in" and what was brought by friends! Yum!!! Of course, I took up regular tea drinking in the afternoon - with a McVitties Biscuit, of course! - (when in Rome etc.), but there's nothing like the first sip of Peets in the morning...
