I plan to do the Lunachix Sunday ride series. I hear there's a big game happening somewhere. Superbowl Sunday can be a great day to ride, some roads almost deserted except for whoever's sent out for pizza...and beer.

Watch out for the beer run guy or gal.

Anyway....who's planning to take advantage of that? Figured we could post our ride here, epic or not.

planning my ride Saturday so I can watch the game.

Don't you love "holidays" though, when nobody's on the road? Enjoy your day!

Riding and TiVo'ing the game! (but this time, I fast-forward through the real show and only watch the commercials!)

I could probably get kicked out of Seattle for this, but I couldn't give rats patootie about football so its the open road for me!

oh my... funny you asked... I have finally promised the guy I've been seeing that I would take a day off, NOT ride, sleep in and spend the day with him...

last week he stayed over and at 6:30AM the alarm went off... at 7AM he was driving away as my friends arrived to ride...

good thing he understands my priorities... :D

it's official. I'm a bike nerd.

I'll be riding. Our club has a "mostly level" century planned. If I can roll out of bed in time (starts at 8:30, so I'll need to be up by 7) I plan on doing that. Otherwise, I'll do something shorter with some climbs. Maybe head out to the coast, the roads out that way should be pretty clear.

I'll be out riding both days in all probability. :) I don't really care about football. I used to go to the superbowl parties because it was another reason to party ;) Well that and to watch the commercials.

Neil will probably be out riding to me unless he has to work. We're hoping he doesn't.

I could care less about football. I've been wanting to ride with the local womens development team so I think I'll try that out this Sunday afternoon.

I'm planning to ride on Saturday, but as of this moment, they're forecasting rain. So I may have to ride Sunday afternoon in any case. I do like to watch football, if I care about the teams, so I will probably try to watch at least a little of the Superbowl on Sunday.

The the weather is kind and we do get to ride on Saturday, I may still do an easy Sunday afternoon ride, just to stretch out the legs.

Travelling up to Santa Maria this Friday to meet Bob Roll at a private party. Saturday abd Sunday staying in San Luis Obispo and plan on riding both days and coming home later from SLO after lunch on Sunday. If I miss the Game, I miss it. Riding is better anyhow.

I'll be riding, but when March Madness rolls around, the choice will be more difficult.

although I couldn't care less about football - I have an evensong I have to sing for Sunday so I wouldn't be able to do either! But wishing all riders good roads and all superbowl watchers soft couches! :D

No ride or game for me. My husband and I are heading for the mountains for a backcountry ski trip to one of the huts for a long weekend. no electricity there, totally awesome!!

Weeeeell ... I don't have tv this year. I only get to watch while climbing "hills" on the treadmill at the gym. But it's also too cold (for me) to ride here now, and anyway I just shipped my bike to CA to do some training with Trek420 next week. Sooo ... mebbe Sunday will also be a day with less "traffic" at the gym. Ya' think??? :) I'm hopeful, anyways. And my plan is to find something I really miss (which is so not football, though I occasionally enjoy that too) and then switch to the game during ad breaks. Might work. I've never watched the game, but I've heard I've been missing some good ads.

Let's see, ride bike the day after a 187 mile ride or watch the Superbowl. Um, I think I will have to go ride my bike!

I will be delivering babies. Probably without any nursing assistance, as they'll all be in the lounge watching the game!

Me: "uhhhh, NURSE? Hey! Baby coming! HEY!"
Baby: "Waaaahhhh....wahhhhhhhh...!
Me: "Oh, heck. Anybody see the time of birth? No? OK. We'll make it up."
 L.

I only figured it out earlier because Chico Velo does a ride on Super Bowl Sunday.

That's more of a boulder we're under.

so who's playing anyway?

My paycheck job is weekends, and by the time I get home I'm not good for very much. I'll probably camp out on the couch and sleep through the game.

Now if my Broncos were playing, I'd call in sick and DH & I would be in a motel room in western Nebraska (where we can listen to the game on KOA - yeah, we're weird)watching eating pizza, drinking beer and watching the Broncos lose horribly. Something of a tradition...

If it's not raining, I'm doing the 3 bears loop Saturday

Sunday I'll be doing one of the ALC Cat 2 training rides (my first ALC training ride - woo hoo!)

What exactly is the Three Bears Loop? Kim talks about it. Everybody talks about it and I know the general geographic area but nothing else. Is there a description on the WWW somewhere?

Edit -- I just did some sleuthing. There are billions and billions of 3 Bears Loops out there! I found 2 different ones in 2 books. Too much. I know part of the loop we rode on the TopHat but I don't think we rode the bears, only the pig.:D

They're saying chance of rain on Saturday morning, so I may have to wait until afternoon to ride, or Sunday afternoon. We'll see what it's like tomorrow, I guess. It would be cool to ride together again!! :)

The Three Bears are on Bear Creek Road - here's a route sheet I found linked to the Valley Spokemen site.
http://home.comcast.net/~prathman/VS38A.htm

Oh, this is interesting - it's the orientation packet for the 2004 Bike Against the Odds:
http://www.breastcancerfund.org/atf/cf/%7BDE68F7B2-5F6A-4B57-9794-AFE5D27A3CFF%7D/BAO%202004%20orientation%20content.pdf (hope the link works)

It contains a route map and the following description of the "Pro/Am" route:
Pro/Am: 65.6 miles with 6000’ of climbing. The Pro/Am route is the same as the advanced route with the addition of the Three Bears loop around San Pablo and Briones reservoirs. This route is not for the faint of heart! The Three Bears loop begins at the intersection of Wildcat Canyon and Camino Pablo. The Pro’s continue straight on Camino Pablo/San Pablo Dam Rd. and ride on gently descending hills into El Sobrante. The route then turns right on Castro Ranch Road and climbs through a residential area and descends to a right turn on Alhambra Valley Road. The next turn is a right on to Bear Creek Road which climbs three hills “the three bears”, and returns to the intersection of Wildcat and San Pablo Dam Road. The Pro/Ams cross San Pablo Dam Road and climb Wildcat to the rest stop at Inspiration Point in Tilden Park. From the rest stop continue on Wildcat to a left turn onto South Park for a very steep climb to Grizzly Peak Blvd. where there will be a water stop. Turn left and take Grizzly Peak back to Oakland following the same route as the advanced riders.

The "loop" I have done once, and will do tomorrow (if it's not pouring) is the one you describe but I start and end at my friend's house off Castro Ranch Road - no climbing Wildcat Canyon for me (3 bears and a cat?) or Grizzly Peak (3 bears, a cat, and another bear? )

SK- That's the route I took Veronica on in Nov or Dec. We did it from Martinez. However, instead of going home by the SF Bay on old HWY 40, we went BACK to Martinez via Pig Farm hill (called this as there used to be a pig farm at the top- sign still says "Pigs for sale"). Doing that hill (18% climb towards the top-short and sweet)requires much determination!!!! But V did it 31lbs of bike and all!!!!

Anytime you all want to do this route, let me know. I'll bet Cindy Sue would do it in a heart beat with us! I willl probably do Bears on Sunday as that is my ride day. Sometimes I'll go to the top of the last long bear and then turn around and come back via Franklin Canyon to the Carquinez Bridge. Many ways to do this ride and very little traffic.

Wish I could come with you- BZ tomorrow, but that just won't happen. Hope you don't get too much rain- forecast says AM showers, clearing in PM.:) :) :)

I was trying to figure out which route everyone prefers since there are so many on the web.

Nancy, Pig Farm was on the TopHat. Seemed OK to me. I hated Happy Valley for some reason. Maybe it was just the name. I mtbike at Briones frequently. The hills there make Pig Farm look like a piglet.

Three pages of responses and not one other person has mentioned your sweet party with Bob Roll! You have to tell me how it went! Someone on bikeforums mentioned he bumped into him and that he's a really cool guy. Was going to be commentating for the Tour de California.
