Hi Gals, My sister does this great thing, called "Secret Sisters". Basically everyone gets a "sister" and sends them a little something each month.
They do it, like lipgloss, new panties, etc... I am not involved in her secret sister because I am not a mom. BUT, I was wondering if some of you gals would love to start this up, "Cycling Sisters"? The idea is everyone that is interested sends me there physical address and my helper (Slinkedog??)
and I will match you up with a sister. We could even start out with exchanging cycling socks?? Becky

Hi ladies, I hope everyone has their sister. The plan is to send your secret sister their socks by March. March is the deadline, because by then even our out of country gals will have theirs also. Besides socks, please send one of your favorite recipes for "cold weather dishes". Thanks and have fun!!!!

is there a suggested spending amount? I suppose there is some merit to holiday parties that say spend between X and XX....

02-24-2006, 08:48 AM
Hi Gals, answer to your questions....
1. Please email me to find out the screen name of your sister
2. There is no $ amount, but every sister should receive a pair of cycling socks. Also, anything else you wanted to put into it is fine.
Sorry I have been slow to answer, B

Ladies,
I know that a few of you have placed your orders via TE. (Thanks!) My staff does not follow the forums, so if you don't want a receipt included, which would spoil the fun, PLEASE put "Please do not a enclose a receipt with this gift" in the special instructions field when you place the order. I just saw an order come though that said "Secret Sister" in the special instructions field. *I* know what this means, but the order processing staff doesn't. I happened to catch it, but I don't usually review the orders.

Well where else would we go for cool socks??? I had to buy a bolero yesterday, because I just couldn't stand not having one any more after having it on my wish list for a year, and since you started stocking them...Then I just _had to_ take a look at the socks, and found a new pair that were so perfect for me, the Filet de Soles, then I found a pair, the Love Stinks pair with the lovebirds, that is going to be _so perfect_ for my daughter, who has a Senegal Parrot that is the love of her life (well next to her husband and son- but she's had the parrot way longer!) who looks a lot like the lovebirds- she is going to be so happy!
Oh, and the brown-bagged socks made me laugh! Not my style, just the idea that they had to be covered up. So I guess you're not going to carry the Got Wood? (picture of beaver) socks that I got BF for Christmas, huh? He just likes beavers, so they were perfect for him!
I love socks...

Well, let's just say that some people have "delicate sensibilities". The Doggie Style socks (the only ones we currently have in a "brown paper wrapper") were not up on the site for 2 days before we had a complaint! So, we figured the wrapper and the "disclaimer" were a good idea - this is a family site, after all. :) In case anyone is wondering what we're talking about, go here: http://www.teamestrogen.com/categories.asp?catID=92 and check the third row, center.
Funny story told to me by one of the gals over at Terry. Sock Guy makes a sock that they call the Uptown B*tch sock. It's burgundy with B*tch written in a pink, swirly script. A few years ago, Terry put them in it's printed catalog. My understanding is that they received numerous very vocal complaints about that sock, and subsequently removed it from the next catalog. The funny part - if memory serves me correctly - is that it was a very well-selling sock! Just goes to show that one women's trash is another's treasure, eh?

That's too funny, given the fact that you can hear and see worse on network TV during "prime time!"

Hi Sisters, I am looking for suggestions for April. What do you think that our secret sister would like to receive for the month? Perhaps something for the hair, water bottle, or what about a panty exchange? Just throwing things out there, what do you think? Thanks, B
Nanci
03-08-2006, 09:05 AM
Not panties!!! Cute idea, but I am _so_ picky- I only like Patagonia. Waterbottle is a good idea- you can always use more than one! ;-) Cycling snacks would be a good one. Could "hair" be stretched to include anything that goes on the head?

I think I read somewhere (dang, I really can't remember where, or I'd go looking  ) that motorcycle riders have a small bell on their bikes to ward off all things evil, like the p*n*ct*r* fairy, or mechanical difficulties, or even dark SUVs driven by inattentive drivers.
The thing is, they don't work if you buy them for yourself. Someone has to give you yours.
Maybe we could exchange a bell, or a bike angel, or something protective like that?

Bracelets are ok but i don't wear them so a person would just be wasting their hard earned $.
As i was walking to work this morning I thought why not send our secret sister an item from our city/town etc that they can't get in theirs. Even if it's not to do with cycling this time, tis ok.
Thoughts?
ps-i like the angel idea.

I love the "something local" idea, and I love the "something guardian" idea. I race, so I have so many goodie bag water bottles hanging around. A tailsman, I could always use.
( i have gotten the weirdest stuff in goodie bags...we should start a thread on that. Crotch guard caused fits of hysterical laughter in the parking lot at my last race. "back off....I have crotch guard")
Well it cracked us up at the time:D

I like all three ideas:
1. waterbottle from local bike store;
2. something bought local or unique to a place where you live/work---like socks or saddlebag from a LBS;
3. guardian angel (small bell, angel on a bike charm, etc).
By the way, I'm all for sending nifty socks. "Sock of the Month Club"
No panties, please.

Well,
If we decide on socks again....I have to let my s.s know that I am a mtn biker, so send me rough and tumble socks...my first pair are so beautiful that I am afraid to wear them on the trails!!!!!
I got all excied because they match this sports top that I have and then I realized, hey wait a min.....I can't bike in that stuff in the summer, it will be ruined first time out. I guess underneath all of that dirt, there lurks the heart of a girl somewhere.:)

I vote for socks or something smaller.
Water bottles are great but they are bulky and therefore will cost more to ship. I am on a tight budget and I would rather spend what money I have allocated for the TE SS to the gift rather than the shipping.
So I vote things that are easier to ship. Then for those of you who want to can send more. :D

You know, I _would_ send you a PM bat, but they are found a little too far south for me.
This place is right down the road, though, and they have an open house every year around Halloween! http://www.lubee.org/ Who would have known that the bat trademark of Luis Bacardi rum was due to LB's love of bats...
You haven't experienced a bat until you've been six inches away from a bat with a six-foot wingspan!
Also in town, the University of Florida Bat House (housing a large population of Brazillian Free-Tails.) http://www.floridabats.org/UF-BatHouse.htm It's where we always take out-of-town visitors, to see the nightly emergence.

I'd say anything cycling-related in the $10-$20 range would be great. I'm sure we could all afford that, and it could be socks or bottles or miscellany... can I get a second on the motion?
AND we could start a "wish list" thread so other SS could look up and see favorite colors, sock size, etc.

unfortunately please count me out for this time around, I'll be away from home half the time in the next few months so it will be hard for me to be a good SS... :(

Wasnt sure what we were sending to our ss for the month of April, and I was sending overseas, so I sent my pkg out early d/t April is going to be a busy month for me. I took a couple ideas and sent out socks (which I thought was going to be a monthly thing so I stocked up) that were more state specific and some small items that I thought could be of use while out riding. I hope no one minds, esp. mt. puddles, as there really wasn't anything set in stone as what to send out yet for the month of April. So my ss that lives in Australia should be getting a small pkg. in about 2 weeks..enjoy..shellyj
