I tried this last year, but there weren't any takers. We're already off to a better season than all of last year, so I thought I'd try again. I'd be happy to coordinate a group rate at one of the cross country ski areas in the north Tahoe area if anyone is interested. My preference would be Tahoe Donner or Royal Gorge, but if more people are interested in Lake Tahoe XC, then I'll contact them. We'll also have to work out what day is best.

Here are the websites for the various places if you want to check them out:

Tahoe Donner: www.tdxc.com
Royal Gorge: www.royalgorge.com
Lake Tahoe Cross Country: http://www.tahoexc.org/

Tahoe Donner is in Truckee. They have @100k of groomed trails. The advantage is that you finish flat or downhill.
Royal Gorge is up on Donner Summit. It's the closest one to the Bay Area. It has about a gazillion kilometers. The disadvantage is that you always finish with a slight uphill.
Lake Tahoe XC is the smallest, and I must admit I've never skied there. It's on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. I have ridden my mountain bike on the trails in the summer. You finish on the flats, which is good when you're tired.

You can ski or snowshoe at all of them and they all have rentals.

let me know

I don't know why I didn't see this til just now! I was there all last week and snowshoed 3 days (1 day at the Nordic Center/Tahoe XC and 2 days on the trails and fire roads just east of there. Those roads and trails go for miles and are great for snowshoeing - I don't know how they'd be for XC.

I might be up for going again if others are interested. Don't know what our schedule will be like this spring, and not sure if we'll be going back out again.

Here's the view from one of the snowshoe hikes I did:

And the dogs love it as well!

Give me a shout sometime when you're coming up. There are lots of good places to snowshoe with the dogs around the north Tahoe area. And this year is shaping up very good so far.

I will let you know. Where else do you go?

We are right on the forest service land that takes you to mt. Watson, etc. That whole area between Brockway and the Nordic center - and above Tahoe city - is pretty easy to access during the summer. And there seem to be a lot of snowshoe trails as well.

I'm in Truckee. I go to the Donner Camp (near Prosser reservoir) a lot. It's flat and there's a lot of room for the dogs to run. The trail past Glacier Rd up at the top of the Tahoe Donner residential area is also a favorite. These are the ones close to my house. I also go to Mt. Rose a few times a winter. But I'm up to going anywhere.

I haven't been to any of those - they sound great. I was going to go with my Truckee friend out of her house last week, but she came to me instead. I've only ridden up Mt Rose, but that meadow near the top looks lovely.
