Strange as this may seem, I look forward to both spending good times with loved ones and friendly familiar faces. PLUS trying a new dish/food that either I've made or someone else. For Christmas dinner we're going to try a mashed celery root, kohl rabi and apple all blended together on the side..

I guess that depends on how important food is to your celebration. After a few VERY stressful failures, even despite some beautiful successes, I don't make anything for a holiday feast that I haven't done before.

Food has always been a great add-on for Christmas celebrations. A person's reputation in my family and in dearie's family does not live and die on how successfully their food is consumed by others. Sure it hurts a twinge, if 50% of a dish doesn't get eaten. Just as long as the cook who brought /made the dish, likes it to take back home.

Then next years, it's trying something "safer", etc.
