Yesterday, I completed the GVB - 591 km over 9 days (inc 1 rest day) of rolling hills and mountains in heat (high 90s) and cold ( low teens) with sun and rain. The 4200 participants ranged from 10 to 83 years of age and we camped in tents with all our food provided by Bicycle Victoria. 1200 students participated on bikes of all kinds - road, mountain, hybrids and tandems. We all felt a sense of achievement at the end of the ride.
As someone who bought their bike in March, after 25 years of not riding, I was very proud to complete this ride and would encourage other novice riders to take on similar challenges ( yes, I did train before the event). If I can do it you can too!

That looks like so much fun! I'm starting to plan a trip to Melbourne next year, and I'll definitely look into the possibility of a side trip to do this ride.

Great job tackling this challenge so soon after coming back from your 25 year absence from riding!

Wow, that's pretty impressive particularly in light that you just got back into cycling after a long absence. Congratulations to you and well done!:):)
