We just missed the opening ceremonies at the new trail head near Mt Vernon this Saturday, but the new extension of the Centennial Trail north of Bryant is "officially" open. Actually it's been rideable for a few months now, but here are a few photos of the trail head at the Nakashima Barn. They did a great job fixing up the outside of the old barn with historical photos and narrations on the history of the local area.
It's a great rolling ride, goes past Pilchuck Creek for another two or three miles and ends at the barn right off of Highway 9 just south of Lake McMurray. From end to end now, it is about 30 miles.
I was talking to someone who said there were plans in the works this winter to fix the half mile or so going through Arlington that follows alongside the street (shoulder)...that is the only gruesome part of the ride, the road is rough, although traffic is usually pretty light along there.
Anyway, we did 30 miles on the trail, and got done right as it began raining. I guess this will be one of the last weekends with best autumn color, the leaves were falling like snow all around us. It was just gorgeous.
