I'm new to the board and have just ordered my new bike; which is black and somewhat masculine looking... I need to get a new seat and choose some different tape. I looked at the Terry saddles and they have an "Aloha" version (little flowers on the leather) I was thinking of getting that seat w/coordinating tape... but, I can't decide if that would be really cute OR REALLY dorky??? I want something unique but I don't want to look like a total newbie either!

Opinions please !!!!

thanks :p

ROFL - well you came to the right place my friend......we've got ladies here that colour coordinate their whole bike and ladies that couldn't care less. I've heard of one lady that has her bike all decked out in leopard accessories!! I'd say go with what is comfortable, if you like the fit of the Terry saddle, then by all means go with it and it will look Awesome on your bike!!

Hmm is there such a thing as dorky in the cycling world? I say its your bike so you deck it out the way you want. Its nice to see bikes looking a little different it shows a little of the riders personality. :)

PS nothing wrong with being a total newbie.:)

Don't set your heart on a seat because you like the way that it looks. That cute seat may look wonderful but feel awful. Or it may be the perfect fit for you. I had to try 4 saddles before I found the right one for me...

But if the look of something appeals to you, then I'd say go for it - with the additional test of comfort if it's a saddle.

Oh - and if you scroll down on the main discussion forums page, there are topics for both favorite and hated saddles. Might be another place to check for other opinions on saddles.

Oh. Maybe that's why I always buy clear water bottles. The lids don't match, and the graphics don't match - but there's no color clash. At least there's no color clash until I have a Gatorade crisis on the road and fill the bottles with different flavors!

LOL... you DO realize you're asking people that think Lycra looks good right??? :D

I agree that if it's a saddle you like, go for it!

Oh and I did NOT get the email that water bottles are supposed to match! ;) :D

hey tprevost... here's my bike... I was SURE I was gonna get made fun of, but everyone who sees it says "cool saddle" etc... this is the Breast Cancer Butterfly from Terry with pink bar tape compliments of TMobile! :D Of course this was back when the bar tape was still pink... now it's pinkish/brownish/gray... LOL... time to get new tape!

Gotta agree with you there Bikerchick...unless a person is one of the .005% of the population that looks spectacular in spandex, all sense of cute v. dorky is sorta moot once you step outside your door. :D

Queen "...unless a person is one of the .005% of the population that looks spectacular in spandex, all sense of cute v. dorky is sorta moot once you step outside your door. :D"

and I read that the % of dorkieness of your cycling duds increases in direct proportion to the distance from your bike.

In other words I'm one of the 99.995% who do not look spectacular in spandex but on a bike, well ok, sorta makes sense. Park the bike and walk into the store? Total dork.

So if the seat feels good get the seat, it's gonna be under your bu** anyway so if you're like me no one can see it anyway  ;)

I used to ride a yellow bike with white tape. People would ask me how I found yellow tape to match the bike! I think it was riding home from the bike shop every night with grease and whatever on my hands that converted white tape to yellow.

I love my 'aloha' saddle and don't really care what anyone else thinks. I have, however, gotten some compliments on it. Like Denise said, just make sure it fits you. I also agree with Trek about showing some personality on the bike. If you're feeling 'aloha' and it fits...why not?

You ladies are SO awesome! Thank you for giving me the bit of extra courage I needed! Actually, BikerChick, it was your bike that gave me the idea in the first place! AND, I'm going to go to the bike store where you got your tape tomorrow to check it out! I can't remember who it is but there is someone up in the bay area that has that fabulous zebra bike too! The guy at my LBS is laughing at me because I'm so excited to get my hands on my new bike but I've got a broken arm so I can't even ride it for another 3-4 weeks!

So, I'm going to go make sure that seat will work for me anf if so... I'm going to grab it!!! Thanks again for the encouragement!!! :D
