Just thought this would be interesting to know.
I am seeing a personal trainer 2 times a month and she told me to drink more water - I was drinking about 64oz at the time, plus my diet sodas 2-3 a day. So I upped my water intake, I now drink at least 96oz. probably more b/c I fill the bottle full instead of stop at the 32oz mark.
I also have milk on cereal some days, and when I go to the gym I drink more water and have actually been mixing it with some powerade lately, probably another 32 oz. or more, then when I get home I will drink close to a liter bottle of diet soda, no caffeine. Seems the more I drink the more I want.
I don't drink juices, I don't want the calories and I don't like tea of coffee, sometimes I drink hot chocolate.
How about you??
Wow - thats a lot of liquid. I estimate I get about 68ish oz/day - a lot of it as green tea. If I drink a lot more than that I feel like I'm in the w/c all day. I'm small if that makes a difference - I would assume that as my calorie needs are different/less my liquid intake needs would be different too?

I think you really need to keep your activity level in mind when you look at how much you are drinking. On days when I am working (as opposed to working out & cycling), I probably drink around 64 ounces between water, herbal tea, diet soda. I also drink decaf coffee and regular tea (yes, I know, bad, but!).
If I add hours of biking, I also add more liquids. The amount is based on both exertion and based on the weather. That is, on hot, hot days I drink a lot more!

I was reading a book by Chris Carmichael the other day he said we need 64oz a day just to replace what we use in a day, NOT including exercise.

I drink about 48 ounces of water throughout the day. I drink soda very rarely - never diet. While I'm working out I'll go through a little bit less than a water bottle in an hour.
With dinner I'll drink either 16 - 24 more ounces of water, juice or a water/juice combination.
I also drink coffee in the morning.
V.
I drink about 1,5 litres a day, which is probably 64 oz, right? of water, sometimes a bit less, plus a few cups of green tea or herbal tea, one cup of coffee, a glass of juice in the morning, a little milk in my cereal in the morning and a glass with dinner. If I'm riding, add a bit less than one bottle an hour to that. Maybe I should be drinking more, but when I do it makes me feel weird, and it accelerates my digestion even more, which is not something I need.

For breakfast I have a glass of water and a cup of green tea.
At work I drink a 18 oz. glass of ice tea and probably another 4 - 8 oz of water.
At home, I drink 2 - 3 12 oz glasses of water. I may add a coke on occasion. I usually drink about 8 oz during the night.
So I am around 68 oz each day. That doesn't include what I drink if I'm riding or working out. All that would be additional. I can easily and have gone through a 100 oz bladder of water while riding, especially mountain biking. and if hot, I could go through another full bladder. On a century I did two years ago, where the temperature was around 95 degrees, I went through 3. I still got dehydrated. I found out later I drank too much water and leached out electrolytes. Boy there is a fine line between too much and too little!

Not a chart, but here's a link to an online volume calculator: http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm.

I really like the way I feel and my skin looks great! If I drink 3 x 32oz before the gym I definately mix with powerade the next bottle. I found that before I upped my oz's I was always thirsty while running/riding and constantly drinking, now I don't require as much while I am exercising so I don't have to worry about falling off the treadmill while trying to drink:D
I find it weird tho that the more I drink the thirstier I feel? Of course it doesn't fill me up like everyone says it does I am 1/2 way through my 3rd bottle and am hungry! tho I spend lots of time in the little girls room:rolleyes:

I find it strange to hear people saying that they drink diet soda but not juice. Come on! Diet soda is garbage compared to juice. Yeah juice may give you some extra calories but they aren't empty calories. Orange juice is going to give you vitamins and fiber! We all need more fiber.
I don't drink enough water at all, I know that much.

I read somewhere one time that you need to drink 1/2 your bodyweight in ounces. IE a 130 lb woman should drink 65 oz a day. Obviously that needs to be adjusted up on active days. I try to use that as a guide. It doesn't have to be just water--liquids--even in stuff like oranges. Add more ounces if you consume caffiene.

Cheers Denise. :) You're either some kind of Google goddess or you have an extremely long list of bookmarks.
Anyway, I drink about 2L (68oz) of water on a no-specific-exercise, not-too-hot kind of a day. The day always starts with a good drink of water, maybe 300mL (10oz) and a cup of coffee. I fill my drinkbottle and sip from it throughout the day, I'd guess having around 1500mL (51oz) between then and about 7pm/dinnertime. I usually have a glass of water with dinner too. I often have a mug of green/herbal/fruit tea after dinner. On cold days I often have an extra two or three cups of coffee/tea to help warm up. The tea usually replaces a drink of water, but the coffee is extra. Obviously, if it's hot and/or I'm getting some proper excercise (running for the train/bus doesn't count :p), I'll drink more. I don't drink much soda or juice at present, largely because it makes for a freakin' heavy backback on the walk back from the supermarket. I grew up in a town with a very clean water supply, so I guess that has helped me grow up with good water-drinking habits. I certainly had to make myself drink water when I first moved to London - not the tastiest tap water here.

Wow - I can't say that I've ever been referred to as a Google goddess before! But you're right, I did find that site by googling...

I eat oranges, apples and other fruits each day, after 100 ozs of water I am ready for something different! my ONE bad habit is diet soda so I guess that isn't too bad compared to what I could be eating or drinking.

You're right - diet soda provides no nutrients. But sometimes that's what I want to drink. And in moderation, I think that's OK. After all, we all have to make our own choices. And you're absolutely right that we all need a good amount of fiber. I usually get mine from cereal and from fresh fruit.
I usually choose fresh fruit over juice. And I was very curious about your statement that you get fiber from orange juice. I wasn't aware that there was any fiber at all in orange juice, so I went and looked it up. (My source for this information was http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/etext/000020.html.)
What I found was that 1 raw orange (with a diameter of 2 7/8 inches) provides 69 calories and 3.1 grams of fiber. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice (raw, from the fruit as opposed to concentrate) was 112 calories and had only 0.5 grams of fiber. Maybe you're drinking some kind of juice that has fiber added?

I too was kind of surprised by the amount of diet soda consumption. I've just never liked the taste of it. We all have our own little quirks. I often mix my juices. :)
Thom likes Coke and about 18 months ago I passed out from a coke bubble that was stuck in my chest. I was hot from working in the yard and drank it way too fast. I kid you not. It HURT so bad. Fortunately I was sitting on the floor when it happened. Thom even called 911. I came to as he was dialing. Needless to say, that put me off Coke.
I like orange soda - yeah I have a sweet tooth. But a few months ago I just stopped buying soda at all for me to have at home. I usually have cran/raspberry 100% juice and oj in the house.
I forgot that I usually have a Red Bull a day, sometimes two. One when I get home from work. It's my reward for riding uphill with 10 - 20 pounds of "stuff." The second one is post workout ride.

I regularly drink 3 litres of water a day, more when its hot. It is 4pm here now and I have already drunk over 2.5 litres and a few cups of peppermint tea. I went out for a run at lunchtime and that always makes me thirsty in the afternoon. I really suffer if I don't drink enough water my body really seems to notice when it is a bit dehydrated (I'm sure that's why I get such killer hangovers).
Tlkiwi, I agree with you about the minging tasting water in London. I grew up in Scotland and tap water is lovely, it has no taste to it at all. When I moved to Preston all I could taste in the water was chlorine (or whatever other chemicals they've put in it), took me ages to be able to drink it. I buy bottled water if I'm in London, just can't stomach the water at all.

Yikes V - back in Aust a few years ago I read an article in the newspaper about some women bursting a hole in her throat ( the part the food goes down sorry cant remember its name). She did exactly what you did was hot took a big gulp and it fizzed up in her throat with enough pressure to make a hole. She was in pain and eventually went to the doctor where they were shocked at the damage. They advised that this rarely happens but that pouring coke etc into a glass first would allow the burst of fizzy to occur in the glass rather than your throat. I still drink from a can when I have a soft drink sometimes but I always think of that story.

Ooops forgot to ask - doesn't diet soft drink have something nasty in it linked with cancer?

yup - it's called asparatame and right now there are several lawsuits against it's manufacturer due to the health conditions it is causing. To name 2 big baddies: MS and Lupus.
and now back to our regular programming:
I drink all day period. I live in the desert so I figure I might as well drink as much and as often as I can in case something happens and I end up out there without water for a few whatevers......at least I have something banked until I can get home. I have not a clue how much I drink but it's coffee in the morning, iced tea at lunch and dinner and water in between until I go to bed.
