2 weeks ago tomorrow I tweeted Salsa about the ETA for my new El Mariachi 3 and they said "should be within the next 2 weeks." No sign of it. I am goin' nuts with anticipation. Not sure if "within 2 weeks" was their expected ship date or my LBS's expected receipt date. Gahhhhh....
I think they played this game a bit with limewave last year and she eventually gave up on the Salsa she'd been eyeballing and got her Trek, instead. I can be patient, since I'm not eyeballing any specific races until next year. I had thought about buying a friend's entry for a race next month, but I'm really not ready for it at this point. My longest ever ride on a mountain bike is 18 miles (granted, that was on my too-small dog of a mtb that requires far more effort than it should) and I think the race is 28 or so.
I'm really dying to put in some real miles on my new baby before weather goes all to crap, though.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Then, after your Salsa arrives, you have to wait for it to get built.
The wait will make your beautiful bike even more desirable. I hope the weather holds for you too.

Next week's weather is looking pretty nice...so I'm hoping that maybe by early next week I'll have it. We have maybe 3-4 more weeks before the weather starts getting really sketchy in these parts. Of course, one benefit to the mountain bike is being a bit more sheltered in the woods.

I think "bike standard time" is about one week later than the rest of the world. Still, it's a small period of time for a bike that you'll own and love for many years. Patience is a virtue (for somebody else.)

Just demo'd an El Mar 2. Salsa guys said the 3s just shipped yesterday and should take 4 days, so hopefully I will have it in less than a week! And I loved the demo bike. I didn't even notice all the uphills until I was back on my heavy little Cannondale. That thing requires SO much more work and kills a lot of the fun.

YAHOO!! Know what you mean about the demo bike. When I road the demo Madone, it almost came out from underneath me when I stood up to hammer it. I never realized how heavy my old steel bike was.

Two weeks isn't so bad... in the spring. One day this two week wait will be a distant memory; I can't wait to see your new bike.

Except the bike was ordered in Aug. It's been a long almost 2 months. :p Maybe it's better than the 3 months that I had my current road bike before the roads were clear enough to ride outdoors--trainer rides are extra torturous, then. Man, Mother Nature and Old Man Winter were mean that year!

Grrr...now I get why limewave cancelled her own Salsa (Mamasita) order a year ago and grabbed a Trek Superfly, instead. She waited and waited and waited and kept receiving ETAs from Salsa that would pass. She would have ended up with her bike months after they first said she would have it. Were I actually registered for Iceman I'd not be able to wait. I could have bought a registration from a friend, but decided if I didn't have my bike by last Friday that she should sell it to someone else who was interested.
So today marks 3 weeks since Salsa told me publicly on Twitter that my bike should be here "within 2 weeks." It sucks as I see people left and right getting new bikes, but my order was in months ago and I still wait. And as I wait the weather is going all to Hell and our nearest mountain bike land closes on 11/1 to hunters and doesn't re-open until May.
When I demo'd the El Mariachi 2 a week ago I got to experience just how godawful my current bike is...and now I am loathe to ride that at all. I can't keep up with anyone on that thing--even people who struggle to keep up with me on any other bike (and, crap, I won a women's cyclocross race on Sunday, this shouldn't be so damned hard). I'm redlining and dying up even tiny hills (and I usually am a sicko who kinda likes hills on any other bike) just trying to not be abandoned in BFE!

oh your bike will be wonderful and worth the wait. don't give up.

Maybe you should just get something else? Totally sucks, sorry.
If you happen to come this way, we ride all winter here. ;)
I don't have a lot of other options via my LBS. About the only other 29er they carry that would fit me is that goofy-looking Cannondale with the Delta-V top tube area. At first I thought those were kind of cool...until I started noticing that design is sort of the standard styling of kids' Wal-Mart bikes.

kinda like being pregnant, the last month just drags on but once your new bundle of joy arrives you will be so glad you waited :)

I'd hoped to get some with the fall color as a backdrop, but if it doesn't get here like...NOW, then that won't be possible. Grr...a vibrant red bike would look so much better against colorful leaves than it will against brown, brown, gray, and brown.

*sigh* I know...at this point I'm thinking I should photograph it with a wreath and use it as our Christmas card photo. :p

Oh man, I feel for you on your wait, especially since today was a perfect fall day. I believe we will still see nice weather but if you're going to be able to photograph that new bike with a fall color backdrop it better be pretty soon. Waiting sucks but once you have it, you'll have it for a long time.

Yeah, this past weekend I think was definitely our peak color. All this wind and rain is really clearing out the beautiful color fast! I got out on my road bike, today, but so many people are posting photos of trail rides on FB and it's killing me (you, too, I'll bet!).

At the very least I will post our holiday card here. It will certainly be bike-related (has been for a few years, now). :)

Indeed it is. My sister drove us out to Island Lake State Park where I frequently ride and the colors were beautiful. The park had a lot of people cramming in rides and being outdoors on this beautiful warm fall day. I looked with longing at riders both on the road and trail. We did stop at a couple of places and we got out for a walk and found a couple picking mushrooms and a kayaker gliding down the river. Well if I can't ride at least the next best thing is to be in my haunts and strolling around. Great therapy! Wonderful sights, sounds and smells of fall. Recupperating can have it's own rewards, being on the bike is more involved and slower than riding in a car but being on foot is even slower can be even more introspective.

This is one of the things I love about running. And I can zone out in ways I can't on the bike. Plus it's a LOT warmer in the Winter! :D
