When I posted my goals for the year, I mentioned that I was going to be involved in a virtual ride across Canada with BikeJournal.com. I thought I'd let you all see how that's going. We have approximately 48 members participating in the Challenge so far and it's really been interesting seeing and reading where some of the other riders have been. I'm currently situated in Golden, British Columbia. I've nearly crossed British Columbia already and it's only the 23rd of January.

The Trans-Canada Highway between Victoria (BC) and St. John's (NF) is the world's longest national highway with a length of 7,821 km (4,860 mi.) The midpoint of the highway is at Batchwana Bay, about 65 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Between this Challenge and an Indoor Training Challenge that will be going from 1 Dec, 2005 to 1 April, 2006 that I'm involved with has been been motivation to get out on the porch and spin considering it's difficult for me to get to the bike through the week. I'm really having a great time with these challenges and I'm thrilled to be able to say I already have 512 miles/825 Kilometers for the year so far! At this rate, I'm going to meet my goal of 5000 miles and then some.
If you haven't checked out http://bikejournal.com BikeJournal.com yet, definitely do! Not only is it useful to log my mileage and keep a journal of my rides, but I have found it highly motivational with the forum.
I look forward to seeing more of you over there as well.
Mary

That is so cool! Is it too late to join? I am a member of Bike Journal (I think) but the interface isn't that user-friendly and it just hasn't interested me that much...

Some of us statesiders have adopted Provinces to ride for. My Mom is a Canadienne from the Province of Newfoundland, so I've adopted Newfoundland in honor of my Mom. I've also recruited several other honorary Newfoundlanders to be on my team. :D

I'm on Team Nova Scotia, since my mom's whole family are Nova Scotians (Go Team!) - but my miles are lagging a bit so far - Mary has left us all in the Vancouver dust!

Team Prince Edward Island here - figure I needed a team at least as long as my real name! LOL I just found Hope (Cn) Fri night!! I don't ride as much in the winter but I'm not too worried, once the days get warmer, the miles will get longer!

The craziest thing is MOST of my miles have been on that stationary bike out on the porch. My sit bones are a bit tender though after over 70 miles on it this weekend. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/misc%20pics/shocked.gif
I really have enjoyed the challenge though.. That and it's keeping me ahead of Marlin as well.:p http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/misc%20pics/bunny7.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/misc%20pics/stirthepot.gif
