Well let’s see, a little background on me. I’m 36, 110lbs on a cold wet day (ha), 5’5 and a brand spanking new cyclist. Actually my bike hasn’t arrived yet. I didn’t have a lot to spend so I ordered a bike online (cheapy road bike) to get started with. If it will last 6-8 months I’ll be ready to upgrade. Anyway, I have no bike, no gear, and no knowledge, but hey I’m filled with desire and motivation.

Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease/hyperthroidism, and was treated in November 2011. Since then I have been modifying my diet (slowly but surely) and attempting to exercise (through a tiny bit of depression after treatment/diagnosis etc). I used to be an avid runner (back in the day) and have always longed to be a cyclist (if that is the proper term). I am also and have been for some time a smoker (I know, I know, I know) but I’m certain this will also assist me with that.

I’ve been reading and reading and reading and my head is full of bicycle congestion! I’ve never put one together, but mine is arriving in a box, and we have no LBS (yes I just learned that abbreviation) within a 50-mile radius. However, I’m pretty handy on a car, so I may attempt the assembly myself. Well just wanted to introduce myself, and hope I won’t annoy anyone to much as I’m sure I will come here with plenty of questions. Thank you all for having me here on TE!

Welcome! I'm also new and I've found that TE has a great group of women who are extremely helpful.

Welcome to TE

If you fall in love with cycling, you'll probably stop smoking because you'll want to breathe better and be stronger.

Cycling= healthy addiction.

Also, it's very cool that you are "car handy". As for me, I freaked out over changing a tube the first time.
