Hi,

I've been doing a bit of digging on TofC volunteering, and best I've been able to tell, volunteer opportunities are being determined primarily stage by stage. Go to the Amgen Tour website volunteer page http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/volunteer.html. You then can sign up to volunteer for the specific days you want. It looks like the organizers are using existing volunteer infrastructures in each area.

After I signed up for Santa Barbara and Redondo Beach, I got an email for each stage inviting me to join a Yahoo Group for volunteers for that stage, and now I get update emails giving status on planning activities. You also get contact information for the volunteer coordinator for each stage. It looks like everyone needs lots of course marshals. Here's the webpage that the volunteer coordinator for the Redondo Beach stage set up: http://home.earthlink.net/~velobum/ATOC_stage7.html

Sadly, now it's looking like I may not be able to volunteer at all; life has suddenly gotten very, very busy. :(

I drove part of the course with my brother over Xmas holiday... the big climb in Camarillo area... heck, what's it called??? Balcom Canyon or something I think... anyway, it apparently tops out at 26%!!!!!

I did a 12% climb last weekend at 3.5mph... I'm pretty sure I would explode my kneecaps climbing at 26%!

If you do get to work it I hope you can get some pics... I may try to drive up for a stage if it coincides with a weekend! :)
