CO2 Inflation Products

I'm new to this forum and new to the mechanics of cycling, so this may be a stupid question. I don't even know if this is the right forum for the question, so forgive me if it should have gone somewhere else.

Can CO2 inflation products be safely used on all types of tires? I'm currently riding a hybrid. Any tips would be helpful.

I don't use CO2 cartridges, but I believe you can use them on any size bicycle tires.

I use a Topeak RoadMorph pump and haven't seen any need to switch to anything other than the pump. I don't like the idea of creating more trash every time I need to deal with a tire problem on the road. (OK, OK, I may be in the minority on that one, but it's still the way I feel!) If you choose to go with cartridges, I hope you have a place where you can recycle them.

I agree with Denise. Carry the Topeak Morph... no need for anything else.

Used cartridges for awhile. No question they inflate a tire in lickety split but there is room for error and if you used up all your cartridges and tire is still not inflated, you are screwed. I ended up using a pump anyway and so just eliminated the CO2 product I had to carry.

Some people swear by them and carry nothing else. Just know how they work.

They do work on all tires but you may need 1 1/2 - 2 cartridges (depending on size) for MTB tires.

Like Kiwi said: there is no such thing as a stupid question and you can ask pretty much anything here - someone will know the answer.

As for CO2 cartridges, it's all I carry on all my bikes and yes you can use them for any size/type tire.

You'll find most of us carry either CO2 cartridges or pumps, some of us carry both.

i use co2 on my road bike.. and on my mountain bike... since your tires are in between the two.. i would say YES.. you can use them... you MAY want the larger 16 gram size rather than the smaller... uhm... 12? that you can get dirt cheap at walmart, though!

I just got a CO2 inflator - the tiny tine one thats just a little nozzle, mainly because I don't feel that it is.... um polite? to make everyone wait on a team ride while I pump up my tire with the teeny-weeny pump I carry (Crank Bros - it acutally fits in my pocket! and works great, but it takes a while). I still carry the pump for emergencies and when time doesn't matter.
One of my team mates has a pump with built in CO2 adapter - seems like a good idea. Most of the new CO2 nozzles have a control valve so it is harder to pop a tire with them now.

CannondaleLover- I"d say have a spare pump along just in case! CO2 cartridges are fine, BUT if you run out of spares, you're otta luck!

I also carry a patch kit just in case I have more than one flat- altogether possible considering the roads we ride on these days!:( :( :( :( :(

Eden really is my name! - I'm not anywhere on the website. This is my first year and there are way too many cat4's to list us all :p
I don't know if I'll do the STP this year or not yet. If it doesn't conflict with a race (mine or my husbands) I think that I probably will. Since Group Health, our title sponsor, also sponsors the big Cascade rides they ask us to try to attend at least two, in our kits, to show our support. I will definitely be at the Chilly Hilly, but I may not have my kit yet :(

Here's another vote for the Topeak Road Morph. I bought it, it sat on my bike for months, when I finally had to use it, it was still user-friendly enough that I could figure it out, out on the road. Plus- it's really cool! And small! And not too slow!
