As I await the arrival of The Bike (happydancehappydance), I'm wondering where everyone puts their bikes. Where do you keep yours?

In my garage, which sometimes gets some water in it and which I can lock, except when it's inside on my trainer. (It helps not to have a car ;)

I live in a condo. My bike hangs on a Minoura bike tower (http://www.minourausa.com/english/storage-e/tower10-e2.html) (Topeak has a similar one (http://www.topeak.com/products/StorageAndDisplay/Dual-TouchBikeStand)) in the spare bedroom.

My Klein sits in my entryway. I ride it the most. My Lemond is in our den. My hybrid, mountain bike, dh's commuter that he does not commute on, and dd's bike are in a mini barn. We ride those only a few times a week and they will be hung up in that barn once cold weather hits for good. My Klein will go to the basement for the winter. It is never banished to the barn. ;). I'll ride the Lemond over the winter.

Ummm....everywhere? ;)

The commuters are on the back enclosed porch/mudroom. The mountain bikes are in the garage, and the road bikes are in the basement. Between DH and I, we have a lot of bikes....

Mine lives in the living room. I have a 1br apartment--it takes up the space that normal people would put a couch in. I'm trying to figure out where I'd put the hypothetical (right now) MTB and new roadie...

In a separate little building that is really a gardening shed, except that it matches my house. I guess the person that built this house was into gardening, but the first thing we said we said when we saw the house was, "Oh look, a little house for our bikes!" Right now, there's just 4 in there, but at one time there were 7 or 8. In the dead of winter, my Kuota comes into the house and goes up in our loft, on the trainer. If it's nice enough to ride outside, I ride my Guru, with wider tires.

this is a timely thread- we were just lamenting the fact that we have a two car garage we can only get one small car in! All 4 kids are also into biking (mountain, downhill, BMX and road!!!!!) It is a bit ridiculous (: in a good way (:

One in the mudroom/entranceway. A couple in the garage. There are 3 bikes in one of the sheds out back and I keep one in a utility room at work. (If I leave work on my lunch hour, there is never a parking spot when I get back so tend to ride if I go out!) Not even sure where my new bike will go when it arrives. It will probably mean getting rid of something to make room!

My husband's Trek 5500 and my Specialized Sirrus stand next to each other in our living room in our small condo. I'm glad to read that other people have bikes in their living rooms, too.

We spent the better part of yesterday rearranging the garage, finding a good place for the bike. I'm looking for good gear to arrange the bikes, especially if we attempt to resurrect dh's old bike ('cause we can ride together once again!).

6 are on a custom built bike rack in our dining room. One is against the wall in the dining room. One is on the trainer. Two are in suitcases under the bed (Bike Fridays). One is in the barn in our backyard (rarely ridden). We couldn't find something that would store most of our bikes in the space we had, so DH and a friend built something. We're currently renting, and it 1) doesn't require drilling into the wall and 2) can be disassembled and moved.

Mine hang from my garage ceiling using an inexpensive and easy-to-use pully system we purchased. It keeps me (yes, me) from accidentally pulling in too far and hitting my bikes (yeah, it's happened), and saves tons of space.

Thread jack: did you get the Ruby Apex?

Yep! In teal! Should be in this week!

Back on topic.

I put my bikes in my bike room. It used to be the master bedroom, once-upon-a-time.

But now I must have a little house just for my bikes! Well, wouldn't even put the newest bike there.

That was the whole reason I asked. I'm thinking . . . gorgeous new bike - should I really put it in the garage? Well, I at least want a place to put it if I can't keep it in the house - you know, if we have friends or family over.

I have 7 bikes. My bf has 7 bikes.

Sooo....

We have a large apt with 2 living rooms. The front living room is really a terrible living room. It's cold in the winter and hot in the summer in there. I don't know what we would do with it if we didn't have 12 bikes to store in there: road bikes and commuter bikes. We also have a walk out basement that the boy has made into his own personal bike shop (with a shop quality repair stand - gear swap score). 2 mtn bikes are stored in a room off the bike shop.

Sounds perfect! Something for everyone in the family. Bikes too! :) Mine is in the garage right now. I'm thinking about taking apart my rusty old mtn bike and replacing some parts but the parts might be more expensive than the bike itself at this point! It's been very trusty in the past.

When motorhoming, the road bike is broken down and put in a compartment. Pita. The hybrid sits outside with a bag over the seat. Wish I had a better system. Probably eight months a year this is the routine. Sometimes I am lazy and leave the road bike outside, which isn't a great idea.

In summer when we are at home base for a month or so the road bike sits in the spare bedroom and other bikes in the "shop" part of the garage.

In shoulder seasons bikes are in the garage of our condo.

There is a total of 5 bikes in my home + my girlfriend is getting a new Hybrid in a few weeks. I keep me Roadie in my room ...the commuter by the patio door in a corner and the other 3 in a deposit/storage room by the kitchen big enough for the 3. There is an extra room upstair that I keep for when my Mother comes visit... She is not coming anytime soon so I was thinking on putting the roadie and the hybrid and all the accesories ...helmets ,bags ,hydration packs etc etc in that room , planning on gettin a trainer as well for the winter . Not sure yet though.

Both of my bikes live in my bedroom, though if I am planning on a ride the next day I will often bring out the appropriate bike to the living room where there is better light to air the tires and so forth. It also makes me smile to see either of them in my living room ready to go, quite enticing :) I do have a trainer for the winter and that will be set up in the living room.

MTBs and CX bikes live in the garage exclusively. Road bikes Summer in the garage, but during the Winter months come to live in the living room...we push the sofa back to make room in our small living room for 2-3 bikes on trainers (so we can do Sufferfest workouts or bike while watching movies).

My Ruby and my husband's commuter and recreational road bikes (both about 1993 era) live in the storage /laundry room by side door entry from the carport. DH's Trek Navigator (alternate commuter- aka "The Elk") hangs locked on the front porch. My son's unused bike is locked to the security bars in the back and there are a couple of other bikes (my mixte and an old Miyata in a storage shed in the back. There might be some more bikes back there too.

My bike also comes inside in the winter but not because she's put away for the season, or is hanging out on the trainer. Starting out warm gives me a few extra minutes before the brake cables freeze over in the morning.

I have three bikes and a trike. three bikes are in spare bedroom. It is also where my big computer resides. A very secure room. Spare bedroom is upstairs so the thief would need a lot of hutzpa... Only one of my bike is worth anything Specialized transition-pro with SRAM force. One is a carryover from the '80s bike and a third bike is an entry level after I decided to stop riding and sold my Litespeed racing bike. After realizing error of my ways, I bought an entry level bike. Still I hate to see my possession stolen no matter how cheap it is.

The trike must weigh over 60 pounds. It is a recumbent delta style trike. Not much interest and definitely not something you want to ride away or even try to load it into a car. Pkup yes but not a car. Too long and too big.

I never felt safe with my bike in the garage. Proof of it was when my sister and BIL's bike were stolen from the garage. Guy used a bolt cu
tter to defeat the locks on the bike.

The utility bikes (commuting bike, touring bike) are hanging in the garage for quick access, the road bikes are inside. The old road bike has a more or less permanent position on the home trainer.

Murienn, are you making fun of my garden shed turned into a bike house :)? I didn't design this house, but it's a good thing we have this option, as the lower level of my house is living space, not a real basement. There are storage closets down there, but much more of a pain to take the bikes out from there. Our garage is not attached, is 30 years old and is not tall enough for DH's car to get into (yes, he has the evil SUV everyone here makes fun of). So, my car is in there, along with various things like the huge snowblower, ladders, leaf blowers, and my ever growing collection of therapy toys.

I learned the hard way not to leave mine in the kitchen, leaning up against the wall, where it could be seen from the back door. Went away for a long weekend last November and came home to a kicked in back door and a missing bike. My new bike (no thanks to my insurance deductible) stays in the house, not the garage, but not where anyone can peer in and see it. When I go out of town without it, I lock it to my iron staircase and remember to set my alarm system. I'm gonna make the #*()@&()@'s work for it next time.

Yeah, I can understand that. We had a car stolen from our driveway, which is why we were so bent on having the cars in the garage when we moved into this house and had a little more room. AND, we do leave the garage door open during the day at times (I had a talk with the kids about not mentioning how much the bike is worth!). So I can see the security aspect of it.

Friday! Friday! Friday! I get it Friday! :D

SUH-WEET! I looked at a lot of bikes when I was buying last November and it came down to a Ruby and the Amira. The Ruby was very nice ride indeed and the one I'd had my eye on going in (based on internet research). Once I narrowed it down to those two remaining, I literally rode them both for over an additional hour, jumping off and on both of them over and over to compare and then compare again. The Ruby was the more comfortable of the two I thought, while the Amira was a touch peppier in terms of handling. But, of course, eeryone's mileage may differ. You won't regret having it follow you home. :)

The thing that complicated life for me was that I had part of a disc shlurped out of my neck in March, and a health care provider (not a cyclist, and the "hide in a padded room to stay safe" sort) tell me not to ride more than 30 miles or so. So somewhat by necessity, comfort trumped for me.

Glad you're enjoying yours, though! :D

I think you made the right choice. My brother-in-law, who has a lot of back issues, loves his Roubaix, but he'd be miserable on the Tarmac. Funny, after I posted my earlier comment, I had a question on my food/fitness forum about the ruby/Amira comparison. Can't wait to see pictures. Are you getting a '12 or '13? And color? Pictures!!!!! They've, of course, changed all the graphics/colors.

2012, 'cause it's on sale and I can get the Apex for about the price of the basic 2013 with the Sora components (my original budget wasn't even that high). I got the white/teal, because while the black/pink looked nice and all, I'm just not a pink person. (And to be honest, the better components on the Apex were just an excuse to not get the black and pink bike.)

The fact that my Amira came in a classic white/black/red combo (something I'll never get tired of and won't be 'so last year') and NOT pink was, while not the deciding factor, a major plus. I looked on Specialized's site after all this discussion and my Amira Comp Compact is now white/green/gray instead of white/black/red, but the major change is that they downgraded it from Ultegra to 105 components. The SL4Expert (I think) is closer to what I bought last year, component wise.

Crap, too bad my bike got stolen in November instead of September last year, so I could have taken advantage of the 2011 closeouts. As it was, I was buying early in the model year, but too late to get in on the closeout bargains.

Anyway, very excited about your new wheels. You'll love her.

Murienn, I am only old fashioned when it comes to technology and things like sending thank you notes, in writing! Years ago, my kids even beat me down to allow them to wear jeans to religious school and not get dressed up. Still get nervous wearing pants in the sanctuary of the synagogue, though.
Other stuff, not so much. In fact, my nick name was Tilly toilet mouth in high school, and that was given by a teacher... really, I spent half of my teenage years hanging out on the Boston Common and I don't remember any of it :).
This has nothing to do with bikes. I hope the OP likes her bike!

Mine are in my living room of my one bedroom apartment. There is room for one in the patio closet, but then I have to open/close two more doors and get around my patio chairs (very small patio) so why bother. :-) The mountain bike frequently just lives in the car.
My cousin has hers on one of those anti-gravity type bike racks, tucked in between the kitchen table and the wall. Works well for a tight space, but you have to move the table to get a bike.

My carbon roadie sleeps upstairs at the foot of my bed. My xc bike sleeps in the formal dining room next to the drapes. My mtb sleeps currently in the formal dining room also next to the china hutch.

I tried to convince DH we needed a bike stand / hooks in that room. But he says, "in the *dining* room?!"...um ya but my bikes don't dine in there lol:rolleyes:.

Right now, all of our bikes are stored in our garage (cars live in the driveway) with one down in the basement on the trainer at pretty much all times (which one will vary though!).

We are moving in a couple of weeks and we are a bit nervous about storing all the bikes, the sea kayaks, the weight bench/racks and even our treadmill in the garage (no room in the house). We will also go down to one car so that the car can also fit in the garage. We've gotten somewhat complacent about security living in the country and now we'll have to be more cognizant of it. Does anyone alarm their garage or anything? Luckily, it has no windows.

We don't worry about the house with 3 dogs over 75 lbs, but they won't have access to the garage so we aren't sure how to best protect our toys in there!

In the far distant past, before I moved in with my now DH, I kept all three in my little cabin ; my commuter bike in the kitchen hanging from the ceiling, and my road and mtn bikes hanging over my bed! For the decade which passed where I wasn't riding much to speak of, they were crammed into storage. I must say, part of the reason I am riding again is that we now have our bicycles easily accessed in a special little shed , part potting shed, part bicycle barn. So now it's so easy to go in and choose one off of the hanging hook and ride it. (The only one I'm interested in riding now is my circa 1993 Cannondale atb I made into a road comfort bike. ) Having written all this I would like to end by saying, that where you keep your bike, highly accessible, or crammed in storage, really does make a difference to the ease it is to actually get on it. If you can get away with it, let your bike live in the house (they don't need to be potty trained)... but I couldn't get away with that now ...lol :)
